Regular season stats mean nothing come playoff time .. like it always does it will come down to D and G .. on D we are pretty close overall on top 6 but Tampa's top 4 is better then ours and ice time will get limited on D to top 2 pairs .. in G we are no match .. bottom line Gio and Muzzy need to control games and make zero mistakes .. it will be a heavy heavy grind of a series and it will come down to whose D make most mistakes .. our forwards won't/can't wear down Tampa's D so we gotta hope Vasi plays like OMG LOL Vasi rather than steel wall Vasi (he is Jekyll and Hyde) .. if Vasi goes Conn Smyth than it will be over and Tampa wins
Auston and his pals are going to need to turn Vas from Smythe to Sieve and Campbell out-goalie Vas in at least 4 games.

The biggest mismatch in this potential series is the netminders.

Last year Vas posted a shutout in 4 consecutive series deciding games to hoist the Cup, and that is a big money goalie that comes up big when needed under pressure.

If Leafs can pull this off is would build a tidal wave of monumental confidence, where the toughest round might be the first.

I would rather get them in the first round to be honest, but even if they beat them, there’s a heap of good teams waiting.
To each their own. My preference would have been building some momentum prior to taking on the big dog.

Agreed if Vasi plays like last years playoffs I think Tampa will 3 peat .. but as everyone knows Vasi can go OFF kilter and look real bad .. we need OFF kilter Vasi to win this series

I don't want to see a single 'hockey analyst' pick the leafs in the playoff predictions posts.

The last thing I want to be saying in these playoffs is, “well at least I hope Tampa goes all the way to three-peat” I could give a rats ass about Tampa, I want the Leafs to ground them into chicken feed. I mean it’s so low on my list of things I want to say, it’s below “I guess it’s time to clean up other people’s dog shit off my lawn”. F Tampa.

Excited for this one. That last game we played against them had a lot of bad blood. Should leave us plenty motivated too the way the score went in that one

Anyone know if we are playing Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday next week?

For the first time in my life I might have to miss a playoff game or 2 if there on Thursday and Saturday as I am a groomsmen at a wedding. I could hopefully catch the 3rd maybe 2nd on Thursday though.

Concert at SBA Tuesday so seems like we will go Monday/Wednesday at home, and then speculation is Friday/Sunday in Tampa.

Leafs had tough opponents in Caps and Bruins and took Caps to multiple OTs and Bruins to game 7 twice. The toughest opponent is TBL and maybe that’s what Leafs need to get through. That’s my hope at least.

Which is exactly why the leafs will win, it’s the most leafy thing ever

If this regular season is any indication they play to the level of their opponents so Tampa better be ready for a taste of their own medicine.

Yep, if everybody remembers, that Leaf team that played the Caps was a team that came in last place overall the prior year, and were playing with mostly rookies stars. They clinched a playoff spot on the 2nd last game of the regular season and then played the President trophy winners. With all but one game going to OT, with a few bounces here and there, the Leafs could have won that series. Both Boston series, the Leafs would have won if Kadri didn't get suspended. Then they played 2 mediocre teams and did what they do best against bad teams and lose.

This is the best defense group I can ever remember since the Gilmore days (Reilly, Brodie, Muzzin, Gio, Lilly, Boosh, Sandin, Hol) and Campbell is 7-0-2 since back from injury (he's making some Campbell type saves that we saw in the first few months).

Forwards: Matthews>Kuch, Marner=Stamkos, Nylander=Point, JT>Palat. Then we've got others that are killing it this season like Bunting, Kerfoot, Mik, and even Engvall. Spezza will come through when needed. So man to man, they are not better than us, so now let's hope that translates on the ice.

All I know is one thing. Or maybe two things. This IS the series of SERIES...

What comes of it? Well, heh. Don't get me started.

Still a fan somehow, even after being told every series is arranged before HAND.

Still a fan. Still think someone is going to give me money for when I lose a tooth too.

Whichever year we slay the demons and get past the first round is the year we can make a run right to the Finals.

Look at the Caps in 2018. For years they had the reputation of never getting past Pittsburgh in the playoffs. They lost to the Pens three or four times in previous years. Then the year they finally beat them they went on to win the Cup.

There’s a LOT to be said for getting the monkey off your back. If we can knock off the b2b Cup champs in the process the momentum will be absolutely massive.

As long as Campbell holds the fort and Matthews/Marner show up (seriously what are the chances of last year’s disappearance happening again these guys are superstars) then we can absolutely beat a high-mileage Bolts team.

Also, there is a scenario where we can go on a total demon-slaying tour throughout the Eastern conference.

Rd 1: Tampa (defending 2x champs)

Rd 2: Washington (2016-17 1st round, first series for the kids)

Rd 3: Boston (no explanation needed)

Would be an absolute dream come true.

All I know is the last team that beat Tampa in a 7 game series was Columbus. Actually wild to think about it.
