In the past they would trend down as the playoffs approached and teams started tightening up. This year however the team has played better and against better competition down the stretch

That might be because nobody is playing for a playoff position, they were decided a long time ago.

Playoff hockey is the most unpredictable, random thing ever. You can't say anything with any level of certainty.
So true.

Hopefully our better D adds some predictability.

The goalie situation feels like a coin toss

Would rather beat Boston, would rather play Boston.

Funk schmunk, Tampa is the reigning back-to-back champs & its core is known to be able to flip a switch for the playoffs.

That said, even though Vasilevskiy really can steal series, I feel as though Campbell really elevates his game when facing certain opposing netminders.

Boston dropping off a bit ?
They have a tougher schedule than Tampa down the stretch, it's looking more likely that we'll play the Bolts

The one team in the entire league I don't want to play. I like our chances against everyone else in the conference. f***ing hell

That's the biggest reason I don't want to play them, I feel like we'll be the better team and lose to the best goalie in hockey

That's a bitter pill to swallow yet again
If there's one thing I'd like to see improve with the Leafs Offense it would be a few more greasy goals. Bodies in front of the net, pinball bounces. They seem to beat us a fair bit. Nothing more deflating than dominating a few shifts then the other team skates up and gets a bounce off a leg. We need some more of those when scoring gets tighter.

I want Boston, but not because I think its a better matchup for us or we're a 'better team' or whatever.

I want Boston for 2 reason:
- if we win it hopefully exorcises some demons for both fans and the players.
- if we lose there are no excuses, it should be clear to everyone (management/players/fans) that this team as currently constructed just isn't good enough to win in the playoffs and changes will be imminent. If we play the Bolts I could see people looking the other way in a loss to the 2 time defending champs and trying again with the same team and management in place next year.
I would hope management is in place and we’re not spinning wheels trying to change directions, that’s usually reserved for teams bottoming out. They’ve given this team everything they need to execute on the ice, it all falls on the feet of the big guys imo. Management has gone to bat for them and it’s time to replay that debt

Kinda jealous that Florida gets Washington. Between Boston and Tampa, I guess you gotta' prefer Boston, but either is a tough series.

I've loved the Leaf's for 50 plus years. But the Leaf's are not built for playoff hockey. When the hitting ramp's up in the playoff's. The leaf's star player's don't like getting hit. Goaltending weak. I hate to say it, but out in first round. ( Again ) Tampa is built for playoff hockey.

Tampa wins
Boston loses

It's looking very very likely we're playing the Bolts in round 1. f***
Most wins and most points in franchise history for the Leafs coming up and the reward will be playing the 2x Cup Champs in the first round.

The only bright side is more than likely they would have to beqt them sometime to reach the finals

I am honestly not worried about the Bolts at all. Are we the underdogs? Yes. For their track record they deserve the benefit of the doubt. But their fans are worried about the playoffs. One of them posted an infographic of how bad they've been against other playoff contending team's this season. Something like only 3 regulation wins in their last 28 games against teams firmly in a playoff spot. They don't have the depth they had in recent cup runs. They have to be the favourites off of goaltending alone. The sheer gulf in class between Vasi and whoever the hell we trot out is massive and outweighs the top 6 disparity for the Leafs.

I think the books would have us as a slight underdog.

Tampa has a great team, the things I fear the most:
  • Their 4th line is extremely capable at playing physical and generating some offence
  • They have the ONLY playoff proven goalie in the Eastern Conference
  • Point, Kucherov and Stamkos get hot and go on a run
Other than that, I feel it is a fair fight. One would hope Tampa is 'tired' from all their recent long playoff runs.
