This week will give us a sneak peek into the playoffs .

Sunday march 27 Florida
Tues March 29 @ Boston
Monday April. 4 TBay
Tues April 5 Florida
My hope for this stretch is that they play like that first period tonight, in every period. Defensive structure, counter attack when it's there, cycle the puck in the offensive zone and don't give up anything for free. Even in doing that we will not win them all, but any loss that comes off the heels of an honest (three period) effort I think we can all accept. This is of course based on them getting league average goaltending.

If by chance we stick to this soft-cheat-loser style, that would tell me we are in real trouble come playoff time.

Standings since January 1st. Leafs are essentially as good as the NYI.

Leafs are sinking like a stone because of goaltending and Leafs have either the 31st or 32nd ranked worst combined sv% since Dec 1st.

Goaltending in the most important position and driver of success and Leafs despite their vaulted offense can not outscore their own goaltending consistently.

It's not just goaltending, all though goaltending ahs been poor, take a look at the Tavares/Nylander 5 on 5 stats. Take a look at the bottom pairing D stats. Take a look at the 4th line, granted fourth lines should mean little in terms of W/L but they are utterly useless. It's a feel good story for Wayne Train and Spezz to come home, but they don't check ,they don't hit, they don't score they don't do a thing. aybe that is what you want a boring 4th line that creates nothing but is also not the reason why you lose.

This Leaf's team is a paper tiger, they have one truly dominant month and then out score their problems for the remainder of the season. Run and gun has not been a thing in the playoffs since the mid 80's with the Oilers and they had a HOF goalie in Fuhr and Moog.

Oct 4-4-1
Nov 12-2-0
Dec 4-2-1
Jan 8-2-1 (3.18 GAA, .890 SV%)
Feb 7-4-1 (3.42 GAA, .889 SV%)
Mar 5-5-1

Just hope Jack comes back and plays like the start of the year. I think it's the only way to really steady the ship.

You can't expect too much from Kallgren. Bad all around play on that 3rd goal last night but your goalie has to make that save.

I always say it but your goalie can let 4 goals in but if it's say 4-4 late in the game you need the type of goalie to make a huge save. Leafs haven't got that often enough at all.

Campbell can do that when he's on but I just wonder what Campbell Leafs are getting when he comes back. I hope to god he's healed up and ready to go.

Simmer and Spezza are great guys too but the 4th line needs to be way better. Same with the second.

Keefe needs to f***ing do something and switch things up.

No lol, Leafs would have steam rolled Winnipeg. Literally everything that could have went wrong, did go wrong in the series vs MTL, they had all the puck luck, injury luck and then those turnovers go in their favor to win in 7 and then they slaughtered Winnipeg. Vegas would've been a tougher test but they're very capable of winning that.

Have had really good luck luck last night

Some excellent posts from you in this thread. I completely agree with you.

Deep down I have felt this team is overrated. Standings don't lie but they're just not as good as they appear.

This is a large part of the reason I'm hoping against hope an Abruzzese or Knies can be something extra special for us.

Can't wait to see our record in April. It needs to turn back toward November for me to feel confident going into May.

Thanks. :)

I'm watching Knies and this guy is the real deal, if he was drafted this year, he would be top 10 no doubt. Abuzzese I'm not as high on, I think he's one of those guys who dominates at lower levels but as he gets AHL time, I think he's going to be just another guy. I hope I'm wrong about Abuzzese.. The way Knies plays, it would not surprise me if he is the Calder winner next year or at the very least a candidate. I think he will give Wright a run for his money. I think Knies makes the big team next year.

I think Abruzesse is going to look better in the NHL than he does in the AHL, IQ guys suffer in the grindfest that is the AHL. Same with SDA looking like he belongs in preseason and then taking a while to get used to the AHL.

Funny because literally every indication is they're better than the standings make them appear.
Yes, their record vs. Buffalo, Montreal, and Arizona strongly indicates I'm not giving them their due? I honestly appreciate your optimism. Seeing a glass as full, or overflowing, regardless of contents is something I wish I could do when it comes to the hockey team I follow most closely.

'Regarding' not 'regardless'.

Yes the record against good/bad teams is one thing. But everything else says the same thing too.

We are not on the same page but here we are on the same page.

"regarding of" is a nonsensical phrase. Regardless works as intended.

You and I do not see alike and that makes a board fun, at least to me, save for when you're trying to correct grammar that is already correct and not understanding replies. Definitely a disconnect.

These are the records of Tampa, Florida, Toronto and Boston, against other Eastern Conference playoff teams.

Wins - Loss - OTL

Boston 5-7-2
TB 6-9-2
Florida 9-4-3
Toronto 8-5-1
I'm pretty sure that historically, this sort of thing means nothing. From recent history if I'm not mistaken we have Boston sweeping us in the regular season and beating us in the playoffs and us sweeping Boston and Boston again, beating us in the playoffs ...

I'm not correcting the grammar.

You said I was ignoring the contents (I.e. regardless) and I told you I was looking directly at the contents (I.e. regarding).

Yet there are others, pointing to our records against Montreal, Buffalo and Arizona as evidence we aren’t very good. While I might agree with what you’ve posted, I’d suggest our record against winning teams, is more relevant than that of losing teams, when it’s the winning teams we have to play in the playoffs.
