Nylander
Grundstrom
Rykov
Chabot
White
Barzel
Erickson Ek

Someone from that group would be a good wager

****Not taking goalies into account

Nylander, Kaprizov, Keller, Barzal, Rykov, Chabot

Don't have any goalies in the running right now. But if someone has an insane knockout round then maybe

Nylander i havnt watched yet. Barzal has been quite impressive for Canada, and would get my vote for that team.

Anyone with goalie thoughts/inclusions?

Sandstrom, and the American/Danish goalies have been the best IMO. But I don't think they've been quite dominant enough to win an MVP

I would add Strome to that group as well. He seems to get a disproportionate amount of hate on these boards, but he's been pretty good.

You can't be serious about that. Joren van Pottelberghe played over 244 minutes (Sandström is 2nd with 180) and made 145 Saves (Krog is 2nd with 82). These are crazy numbers...and hadn't it been for the first period of the Denmark-Game, where his teammates really left him out to dry and let the Danes score 3 with just 8 shots...he'd also be leading all goalies in SV%.

I'm obviously biased but at this point my frontrunners would be Kaprizov, Rykov and van Pottelberghe.

JvP would be in the mix with the Danish goalie on my list. I thought about him yesterday when thinking about the best goalie in the tournament but slipped my mind here today.

Goalies often need to be completely dominant to win the tournament MVP, and that often comes in knockout games rather than round robin so obviously it can still change, but Sandstrom, Parsons, Woll, Krog, and JvP have all ben good, but not quite dominant enough to this point that they'd win the MVP if it were given out right now I don't think

Unless they win a medal, I very, very highly doubt a goalie will be in contention.

Regardless, I highly, highly doubt a goalie will be in contention.

Well, right now there's no clear stand out. Maybe Kaprizov...

Van Pottelberghe has done it all for Switzerland. We wouldn't have qualified for the quarterfinals with any other goalie. 145 Saves during group stage must be a record.

Yeh, Sandstrom was awesome vs Denmark and Finland... but so-so vs the Swiss. He himself said he was not happy with his performance in that game. Had he played that game like the other two would be maybe in conversation at this venture.

Kaprizov, Keller, Nylander, Chabot, Greenway, Grunstrom, Eriksson Ek, Barzal, Rykov

145 saves is just over 36 per game. To think that's anywhere near a record for this tourney with the team disparity over the previous decade is madness. :shakehead

Nylander has really only had one great game, he has the points but Grundström has been the better player of the two.

PLD not being mentioned in the same breath as some of these other players must be hard to stomach for Columbus fans. Kid has looked very average. I would of thought he would dominate a tournament like this. Looking at his stats from the QMJHL...has he actually taken a step back this year?

So who's saved more? 36 Shots against is nothing special but to save 36 and play every minute including OT and Shootout is not normal. As I mentioned...in this tournament, his numbers are far higher than any other goaltenders. If he manages to get it together once again the US kids are gonna have quite some fun with him tonight. He's been the standout goalie so far. The only other goalie with similar performances would be Samsonov. He's been excellent as well.

Columbus has so many excellent prospects...they shouldn't care all that much. Dubois is gonna get it together sooner or later. Way too early to panic.
