His future is incredibly bright. He's 3rd on the Blues with 32 points and has a motor that doesn't quit. His confidence seems to be through the roof. He has 13 points in his last 8 games including a hattrick vs Detroit. He's fun to watch.

I don't expect to see 20 offer sheets accepted each offseason, but I'm guessing more will be attempted than previous years.

Really happy for him. Sucks my oil lost him. Also sucks they didn't deploy him properly to see what is.

Cautionary tale for any bust prospect in HF. High end players need high end minutes to show you what they got.
 
holloway is a good player but "if" he was doing this in edmonton, it'd be attributed (rightfully) to draisaitl carrying him lol. and that's a big if - he could also just be a highly overpaid fourth liner, like skinner is.

don't agree with all the people laughing at the oilers on letting go of holloway in isolation - great teams don't pay above market for replaceable players. of course, they then blew the money on skinner, hahah

It was Brobergs agent who did it. Broberg was always waiting for the summer and offersheets. People on the HFoil complained about not signing him in January, but that was never in the cards. Broberg and his agent were playing for an offersheet and got one (multiple apparently as well) He requested a trade and was never signing with the Oilers until the end of summer if no offer sheets came. People need to put that "sign in january and be proactive" garbage to rest. Holloway was a surprise but not really shocking.

The risk was too high for the Oilers given the information they had at the time. Both players were injury prone and missed significant time. Broberg especially was a huge risk and if we matched the offersheet there would be no room for adds at the deadline and we'd be stuck with that roster as is until next year. Cap flexibility was the best play for the Oilers as they are in win now and players like Broberg and Holloway wont mean or matter much if McDavid leaves.

Replaceable players? You're kidding, right? How many Blues games have you watched this year? Not matching Holloway is the type of move that can solidly slam a competitive window.

SKinner was a calculated risk...but Holloway would have the same issue in Edmonton. Skinner isn't playing where he needs to be to be productive and he can't break in because the top 6 is basically set. Holloway definitely would not be getting the minutes and chance he is in the St Louis in Edmonton.


Skinner hasnt been that bad, he isn't scoring, but he is't playing in the top 6 and he isn't as bad defensively as people make out. Also, his contract is over at the end of the year. Skinner wasn't given a real run in the top 6 after October ( when the whole team was struggling).
 
I thought Broberg was going to be the real piece and Holloway the okay bottom 6 guy. In the oilers defense with the way their roster is set up, they looked like and would have continued to be depth pieces. But it’s the same situation as the expansion draft, a GM thought depth pieces could be real players if their roles got changed up a bit.

Holloway and Kyrou have some insane chemistry and look like they have rejuvenated Brayden Schenn as well. Just need to find someone to fit in with Thomas and Buch and a 3rd line C.

again, holloway is a good player, but when considering the oilers, he was inherently replaceable as in replaceable in the lineup.

great teams don't overpay for their 8th forward, and they certainly don't get attached to them. that's how to slam a competitive window shut. vegas and tampa apply that rule to their 4th forwards, haha.

agreed fully on the bolded - holloway is doing great in 16 minutes of ice time in st. louis with real powerplay minutes - he'd get no PP and 10-12 minutes in edmonton. that's a different situation, and he maybe puts up a respectable 20 points in that same scenario, but not meaningfully better than skinner has.

Your pro scouting chops would definitely qualify you for a seat in Oiler management.
 
Holloway is so good...extremely skilled, extremely fast, plays hard. Did he just hate Edmonton? I see a lot of Oilers fans trying to cope by saying he was low on their depth chart...who would be ahead of him aside from McDavid and Drai?? I don't see any other Oilers forwards I'd take over Holloway.

Holloway coming to STL reminds me a lot of Tage Thompson going to Buffalo and tearing it up. We saw the potential in Thompson when he was here, but he was never given the opportunity to show his true value.

Holloway is undeniable. He would be playing in the top 6 and producing in Edmonton as well.
