Sam Reinhart peaked at 65 points in Buffalo, and that was the only time he had more than 50 points (albeit he was at 50 when covid shut the world down). Sure Cozens doesn't come close to Eichel but to say Cozens is nothing like what Reinhart was is just silly.

The problem with Buffalo is the losers mentality. The only player on that roster with a cup ring is Aube-Kubel. And the only other guys who have been to the finals are Tuch (went as a rookie) and McLeod (there last year). The Swords need someone who knows what it takes to win and is driven to do it again, or at the very least an energy guy. Maybe it's as simple as someone like Scott Laughton. Or if it's more of a free agent target, someone like Yanni Gourde would be a great target.
Reinhart has hockey IQ, Cozens runs off motor and is a winger at the NHL level, not a center.

Curious what Saber fans think is the issue. Injury? Wing vs Center? Linemates? Coach? Bad Luck? Something else?

Could see King's being interested. Don't really have a RD or center to send back.
The problem is center vs wing. He's not a center at the NHL level. When he played for team Canada he played on the wing. When he had that good season in Buffalo they had no system and were a run and gun team. They didn't have to worry about defense so Cozens could skate wherever he wanted and make things happen. Cozens is trapped in a system trying to play center and he just isn't that.

If the team acquiring him is looking for a big body with motor to play wing, he's worth what he's gonna get back but I wouldn't be looking at him as a center.

Yeah that's what I'd be interested in from a Ducks perspective, put him on RW with Carlsson, a spot that has been occupied by Brett Leason since Carlsson returned from injury.

Duck fans have talked about a
Mctavish for cozens swap

Both guys seem like they could use a change of scenery.

Cozens will def explode once he leaves here, most likely on the wing. Hes a driven guy and cares. I don’t think he has the IQ to be a center in the NHL.

He is not a 2 way player that his nickname makes him seem. He is a play driving guy who is below average in his own zone. Doesn’t really elevate guys around him. Hes always “snakebitten”

That’s my opinion of watching him here, of course that’ll change once he’s traded.

Why can't he explode for us? Why did Mitts explode for us and play well, but we traded him. Cozens plays badly and we'll wait another five years and wait for him to explode.

Cozens has been my whipping boy for 2 seasons - it’s more a statement about how things go with this organization

Again, I gave an example of a good player that we just traded for a guy that we didn't really need. Thompson exploded and is playing well. Tuch, some other guys. I think of course Cozens could improve in the future, but right now we have to do something and we have to choose which of the young guys to keep on the roster and which to sell.

Hes exactly why teams should be weary of giving guys with less than 150 games played long term, big money contracts. Sure he looked like he was on the rise at the time, but his 68 point season is looking like a fluke.
