It was brought up on the 32 thoughts podcast that teams are calling Buff about Dylan Cozens.

Now I personally think trading him would be a massive mistake in a long line of massive mistakes, Sam, Reinhart, ROR, Jack Eichel, even Evander Kane

And yes I know Tage was acquired for ROR but still ROR went on to win a cup, playoff MVP and the Selke.

Jack won a cup

Reinhart won a cup

Kane went to game 7 of the finals.

They shouldn't do this, they should keep Cozens.

But if they do what does a Cozens deal look like?

Hard to think it matters too much if players go on to win a cup. They all went to teams that actually have foundations. Which is something Buffalo can’t seem to build.

I actually like what they did with Malenstyn and McLeod. Feel like they should’ve addressed the spots with some vets that have experience of winning or at least surround those guys with that.

Unless they draft a truly franchise altering player, I’m not sure how they fix the issue if they won’t bring in a few guys to build a culture, or just don’t trade core pieces prior to them being in a position to build a core.

I get Eichel had some injury issues at the time and seemingly didn’t like the way things were handled, but that would’ve been the perfect player to surround with some experience along with seemingly Reinhart.

Evander Kane, seriously? They shouldn't even have traded for him. But also, Cozens is nothing like Eichel, Reinhart or ROR. I don't think you know who Dylan Cozens is. Sure, they don't need trade him for pennies, but I'd definitely listen to offers for Cozens. Our roster is very questionable and not going to make the playoffs, so almost anyone should be available for a trade, though preferably not with this idiot GM.

Cozens is making 7 mil and is on pace for 37 points. He was supposed to be the solution to 2C spot for years. It enabled the Mittlestad trade. Now, is this guy with 47 points last year and on pace for even less this year that solution?

If he can go somewhere and win the Cup or simply be an effective player, for starters, it doesn't mean he can do it in Buffalo. Of course, the return would have to be big but nobody is telling them to give him up for free.

Sabres fan here...I'd have no problem trading Cozens or most of the roster for that matter...In fact, I think it should be done..Fire GMKA and overhaul the whole roster.

Sam Reinhart peaked at 65 points in Buffalo, and that was the only time he had more than 50 points (albeit he was at 50 when covid shut the world down). Sure Cozens doesn't come close to Eichel but to say Cozens is nothing like what Reinhart was is just silly.

The problem with Buffalo is the losers mentality. The only player on that roster with a cup ring is Aube-Kubel. And the only other guys who have been to the finals are Tuch (went as a rookie) and McLeod (there last year). The Swords need someone who knows what it takes to win and is driven to do it again, or at the very least an energy guy. Maybe it's as simple as someone like Scott Laughton. Or if it's more of a free agent target, someone like Yanni Gourde would be a great target.

Curious what Saber fans think is the issue. Injury? Wing vs Center? Linemates? Coach? Bad Luck? Something else?

Could see King's being interested. Don't really have a RD or center to send back.

But in the unlikely event that the Buffalo Sabres are considering making significant changes, I definitely hope the Habs will inquire about Cozens.
Why is it unlikely that the team 1 point away from last in the conference, on 8 game losing streak and with their core approaching their prime is considering changes?

They had that franchise altering player.

His name was Jack Eichel and they couldn't build a team around him.

ROR and Kane weren’t mistakes.

It's not silly, it's a given. Reinheit has always had a higher IQ, Cozens low hockey IQ, he had one good season with an inflated shooting percentage, and then he just became what he was supposed to be. He doesn't have a good shot, he's bad at defense, not good playmaker, he's bad at center, Ruff literally screams it. He's terrible on the PP and not great on faceoffs. He doesn't show anything there other than speed and athleticism, although he plays without grit.

Besides good veterans, we also need good players. Our defense sucks, they're soft, they can't win a game without Dahlin, they even lost to AVS in the 3rd period when he was out. We need to rebuild our defense and our top 6. That's probably four new players that we're not getting anywhere right now. Laughton? No thanks. Gourde, maybe.

Kevyn Adams is a dogshit moron. He should be fired and everyone on the roster except Thompson, Peterka, Cozens, Dahlin, Power, Byram should be available.
I agree with the first, but not so much with the second. We need to trade one of Power/Byram to properly assemble the defense. Why do we need three PMD LDs when we are missing two RDs in the top 4 who can defend. I would not trade Dahlin, Benson, Thompson and UPL, all the others may be available. Even in games you can see how some simply do not put in the effort.

Power shouldn’t be available. He’s going to become a top 10 d.

Maybe, but everyone has their own list. So far he has a lot of problems, although he hasn't seen a normal partner next to him yet, and maybe our defensive coach sucks, and the owner doesn't want to change the coaching staff from last time because of saving money.

Could see King's being interested. Don't really have a RD or center to send back.

Two fold - 2 years ago he scored 31 goals, picked up 68 points under Granato's all-rush, no-defense system and at the year end interviews talked about trying to score 40 the next year. It looks like he put a lot of pressure on himself to be something he is not - namely a frequent finishing center. The coach didn't do him any favors by encouraging it.

And then while struggling to start last season, he got angry and got into it with Garnet Hathaway who broke his nose in a fight. He was struggling before, he's been struggling since. He looks like he has lost his confidence and now is making effort mistakes. To start this year, he was getting shots and chances, probably should have had more goals but instead of sticking with it, he's gotten very down on himself and the defensive effort has evaporated.

At this point, they should probably put him on RW but that would mean finding a center for line 2 that they simply don't have.

A Bruins offer would be a “leave the rebuild” offer as part of a larger deal with Carlo and Coyle/Zacha as part of the Boston return. Not sure if that is the direction Buffalo would want to go, but I can see how removing Boston from the playoff chase and bringing in some established guys could be of interest.

Idk why people call it a massive mistake trading Eichel and ROR when Eichel requested a trade even before his back injury and ROR used his words and attitude to force his way out.

Cozens is playing his way off team ..
