Lindholm's not getting 7.5 million. Got to wonder if a team may offer him an offer sheet soon. Can't see a young defenseman like him being on the sidelines long.

If a team was going to do so they would of done so by now. Teams need to have the picks to give up and cap space and that eliminates a lot of teams. Also offer sheets are not a popular thing for GM's to do for a reason.

Actually wouldn't now be the time to? Teams have had up until yesterday to be compliant... I also think some teams may have been waiting to see how certain teams' lineups are finalized and who may hit waivers early.

Yeah, not sure if I agree with that. Without being able to go over the cap like you can in the offseason, the Ducks would be in a very tight spot if they matched a 5 year 6.9 million offer sheet. You think the offers for Fowler are bad now...

I assume its the reason that Rackell hasn't put his name on paper, yet, even though it sounds like the teams were close to an agreement. You sign Rackell, and Lindholm gets an OS, you have to move Fowler before you can match the OS. Which would be a mess for Anaheim.

So Anaheim, how's the off loading the contracts working out?

Guess keeping Fowler and not resigning Lindholm was part of the plan?

I'm sure this will work itself out before the season starts ... oh wait it starts tonight.

seriously, what if a team, say Carolina would offer sheet Lindholm today for 7 years 63M. Highly unlikely, what still possible. What would Anaheim do then? I'm shocked no one has done this this because a couple of teams have the cap space and Anaheim has little flexibility at this stage.

What is the ceiling GMs are willing to pay for Lindholm? I mean 7 yrs at $7.5M is $52.5M, @ $8M with same term its $56M. Whats his worth out there?

They'd probably waive/send down whoever they needed to to match the offer, then trade Fowler as quickly as possible, and then recall whoever they waived. Not ideal though I agree.

Why am I not surprised a Sabres fan came in here to post something like this. :shakehead

Still upset the Sabres never OS Lindholm even though Sabres fan were 100% CERTAIN it would happen.

I never thought it would happen, but honestly, why not now? Carolina has tons of cap space and no one else does. I knew Tim Murray wouldn't do that because he's the old guard they just don't.

Cap space is an asset, why not use it against teams that don't have it. 63M would be way too high in my opinion but if you want to steal a guy, you need to take a risk.

Because they would have to overpay for Lindholm for us to not match. Then they'll have to overpay their own RFAs when it's their turn. OS are a terrible idea for GMs which is why we don't see them.

Uh, you take four first round picks from a very mediocre team and set yourself up for the next decade? That's not to mention the utter lunacy for Carolina of overpaying a defensman they don't need and completely screwing themselves when it comes to the likes of Hanifin and Slavin.

Haha so much salt, and that's a horrible idea BTW, like most teams Carolina is in no position to give up four 1st round picks.

Lindholm's not asking for $7.5 million he's only using the Ekblad deal as a comparable. He's asking for slightly more then $6 million per over 8 years. And i'm pretty sure that once the season starts you can't offer sheet any more but i could be wrong there.

Carolina has no need to pay Lindholm $9 million a year. They are more than happy with Jaccob Slavin and Noah Hanifin on the left side for the next decade. Not to mention Haydn Fleury and Jake Bean.

I suppose a deal involving Bruins center-winger Ryan Spooner and Ducks Cam Fowler would be a very good deal for both teams. Bruins get a young skilled allround defenseman who can log alot of icetime and the Ducks get a cheap but speedy young pointproducing forward they need.

Problem is why haven't they done this already. Can't think of a better solution for either team. Obviously they think there may be or the Ducks wait until they can sign RFA holdout Hampus Lindholm. With the race for NHL playoffs being so tight, every point is so important, so I can understand the Ducks.

Lindholm is a very good defenseman and like Winnipeg's Jacob Trouba should get even better. In Winnipeg case they should be more eager to replace Trouba who obviously won't be back in Winnipeg.

NHL clubs and manager's surely are in on this together. I think Lindholm at 22 is asking for a little too much. On the other I'm sure if anything you should sign a player to such a long contract it's with a player like Lindholm and Trouba. They are proven NHL players at 22. They will earn their salary.

I rather question signings of UFA players around 30 given 6-7 years for 6 million a year.

Gotta love when people who are completely incorrect try to use sarcasm and sound clever. You have very little clue.

The plan is to move Despres and sign both RFAs. Fowler isnt even remotely tied to the cap situation or RFA situation. Literally not even a single bit. The urgency to move him is a notion created entirely by fans and media. He will only be moved for a similar cap hit winger, if he is moved at all.

In all likelihood BM isn't pleased with the offers for Despres. Also, he almost certainly chose to wait for the Risto contract because that now immensely helps the ducks side. Now they can point to risto, rielly, vatanen whereas lindholms camp was pointing to Ekblad which is now emerging as an anomaly.

It's really incredible what a bit of research and thoughtfulness can achieve. I repeat, Fowler isnt the holdup.

Sorry dude, but you're wrong. There would be no reason to not trade Despres at this point, even if the offer isn't very good. Trading Despres means both Lindholm and Rakell get signed and we get to keep Fowler. There would be zero reason to not trade Despres for anything. So thinking the reason he's not traded because Murray doesn't like the offers is crazy.

And Fowler being a part of the cap situation is completely true to say. High value player with 4 million cap hit being traded means Lindholm and Rakell get what they want and the season gets on it's way. I get you like Fowler and see him as an important piece to this team, and I agree, but it's foolish to think Fowler isn't tied to the cap and RFA situation.

let's also be real, Carolina ownership is cheap. They can't afford to spend the cap, so there's no risk.

Yes, that's what's preventing them from making your ludicrous idea a reality.

That and Carolina would be stupid to tie themselves down to a 7 year deal at a 9 mil cap hit at the cost of four 1st round draft picks for Lindholm. They could easily move out enough dollars to compensate for the 9 mil if they really wanted to be at the figure they're at but all the other costs associated with such a move is just not bright for them to do.
