This idea has been mentioned a few times around the board. Seems as though the Avs will need to move some money out to try and keep as much of their core intact as possible.

Erik Johnson to Anaheim makes enough sense that I wouldn't be surprised if the two sides discussed parameters while hammering out the Manson deal. He would have to waive his no trade rights, but lives locally which makes it seem plausible.

For the Ducks side they will need at least some stop gap help to eat the D minutes that have opened up and provide veteran leadership. But obviously the main incentive from their side would be whatever the Avs give them to take the contract. Which leads me to my question...

What is a reasonable price for Colorado to pay Anaheim in order to have the Ducks take on the final year of EJ's deal? 6M in both cap hit and real dollars.

I think EJ's NMC is still applicable, so its just not gonna happen. I also think Sakic is pretty loyal to him. He's also not been a bad player. I think he could even come back at a low cap hit after his deal expires.

Its debatable. He has a house in Anaheim and might not have a role on the team next year. If there was any other team he would go for after Colorado it would make sense to be the ducks.

Ejs contract is the placeholder for the Mack raise, as a avs fan im not intreeted in moving out pieces of a already depleted system to get rid of EJ

EJ may be available in the offseason to shed some cap, but I think it would be a best case scenario where everything worked out the way Sakic hoped.

In terms of EJs value... you'll get varied answers. If you ask some Avs fans they think he's a cap dump. Personally I think he's enticing enough as a stop-gap to a bunch of teams rebuilding/re-tooling to insulate their youth. I don't think he's in cap dump territory, but at most i'd pay is a late pick.

I personally think EJ returns a mid pick.

It is still applicable according to capfriendly. I thought it may be one of those situations where both sides may start to see the writing on the wall if his minutes diminish over the stretch drive here. Plus with him being local to Anaheim I figured they may be the best fit if he is willing to go, but I understand he could nix the entire idea.

There is perhaps the option of buying him out. Acquiring team eats a cap hit of 2M × 2 years, EJ signs back with the Avs at the break even (2M).

EJ is still a reasonably solid player. I don’t know. A 2022 3rd and Shane Bowers to take EJ at his full cap Hit.

Ducks get a PK guy and number 5 D to play 16 minutes a game. He’s a big RH shot. Can still skate ok.

also get a 3rd and 2017 1st rounder the Avs brass hates.

The league didn’t actually do anything but send a letter but they definitely signaled disapproval when the caps sent us orpick in the grubauer grade for that purpose, going to guess they won’t approve of us doing it with EJ
