With the 36th pick in the 2012 NHL draft, the New York Islanders are proud to select, from the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League, defenseman Michael Matheson.

We definitely wanted to upgrade defense in this draft, and are absolutely delighted with this pick. Dumba and Matheson are two fine defenseman who both project to be top blueliners for the Islanders in a few years.

I'm just happy we got to the second round. I know last year there were some mock games that didn't even make it past pick 16.
