Rumor: Dubas has told other teams "everyone is available, except 87."”

Rumblings behind the scenes are that Crosby's reaching his breaking point and things are changing. It obviously comes down to if he wants to move. It's the f****ing internet, dude. Jesus.

Also Mcgroarty will never be a top line player. Dude can't skate even at the AHL level. Pens need way more than him.

There are zero rumblings that Crosby is “reaching his breaking point”.

It’s just nonsense chatter from Canadian media people trying to get clicks. It’s the same exact group of people who were starting the “Crosby won’t re-sign with the Penguins” talk over the offseason because Crosby hadn’t signed yet.

Lemieux missed the playoffs in his last few seasons as did Gretzky, Jagr, Messier etc. I dont get why people are acting like Sid is about to have some kind of mental breakdown. Missing the playoffs is the norm for most legends at the end of their careers. It probably sucks for competitive guys like Sid but its pretty normal.

I'm sure Mario wished he had a better "last season".

I mean there’s missing the playoffs and then there’s getting embarrassed every night as one of the worst teams in the league

Can anyone point out a trade - a single trade - where Dubas extracted above market value?

The McCann trade with Sleepy doesn't count, since he immediately elected to protect Justin friggin Holl over him in the expansion draft lmao

Jake McCabe trade has been really good for the Leafs. Got him for multiple seasons at a crazy low cap hit and he’s now half of the best shutdown pair in the league this season.

I disagree, Dubas has extracted pretty solid value in his trades. Some UFA signings, not so much.

Are you kidding me?

You'd be hard pressed to find any general manager post Mike Milbury who's been worse at making trades than Kyle Dubas.

Nothing makes an NHL general manger happier than when their phone rings and they see Kyle Dubas' name on the caller ID.

What? Lmao. Seriously, what dude???
Name a traded he didn't. What trade exactly did he make that wasn't a good one here? Yager for McGroarty, did we lose that? Reilly Smith? What?

How about not winning a playoff series his final TEN seasons in the league if he stays here? Pretty brutal.

Don’t say Canadian Media. All that chatter is coming from Toronto Media. For the express and sole purpose of creating the precedent for McDavid to leave Edmonton. It’s a petty and stupid game they play over there in Toronto, sorry the Pens and Crosby got caught in the cross fire.

Why don't you start with trades where he's "always extracted solid value" as you've made in your claim?

1. Traded Kadri for Barrie and Kerfoot -> Kadri goes on to win Cup
2. Traded Marchment before he broke out
3. Traded Connor Brown before he broke out
4. Traded Barabanov before he broke out (are you noticing a trend here?)
5. Traded a 1st+two 4ths for Nick Foligno in the year 2021
6. Traded a 1st+2nd for an over-the-ropes $10million dollar Erik Karlsson (to a team that already has Kris Letang)
7. Traded the most valuable Penguins trade piece in 20 years for a 2nd round pick and a $4.5 million Michael Bunting

That's off the top of my head but I'll allow any of those disgruntled Leafs fans that always trickle into these threads to help me out here and add more.

Also said no to a FREE 6th round pick out of spite in the Hyman sign and trade.

Idiot... That was Shanahan and Sullivan that demanded that. Hate seeing such uneducated posts.

I'm not talking trades prior to PIT, and since he arrived here he hasn't lost one. So keep quiet!

Jake was gone anyhow, keeping him would have stalled the lottery potentially, it was a good trade. What did CAR get? Nothing!

The McDavid precedent already happened, John Tavares. The Crosby joke is about bringing a proven Cup winner to the Leafs, nothing to do with McDavid.

Incredible insight. Are you apart of the FSG executive board?

How on earth did he not lose the Karlsson trade?

CAR got their ppg, 1st line scoring wing who played just as advertised and did great for them in the postseason. TDL acquisitions have a price and only 1 team wins the Cup, it doesn't mean you should be okay with a shitty return on your best trade piece in decades.

That precedent fell flat on it's face though cause Pajama boy didn't lead to any success. So they need to invent a new one, a fresh one.

Anyway I'm not surprised with Dubas' ability to gull the masses - he'd make a great politician.
You would as well because you took what I said entirely outta context.

I'll agree about the EK deal, but at the time most were pretty encouraged. In hindsight it looks bad no question, but he took a shot in believing this team was still viable. I think the majority at that time would have thought the same.

Well yea man of course it's exciting when Erik Karlsson comes to your team. That doesn't make the trade good. And you can't just say "in hindsight it looks bad". It's Dubas job to evaluate that part.

I'll agree with you on that, but the other trades he's made since being here were solid. And keeping Jake would have led us to mediocrity. So Having Brunicke as a good prospect and plummeting in the standings en route to a high lottery pick as a result is a definite win! Much better than losing Jake for nothing. Look at CAR, they got nothing and lost a 2hd rounder +.

Your missing some of his classics and some of the sweet returns on a few of the deals you mentioned.

1. Traded Patrick Marleau, a 1st round pick (Seth Jarvis) and a 7th round pick for a 6th round pick
2. Traded Trevor Moore and two 3rd round picks for Jack Campbell and Kyle Clifford.
3. Traded Mason Marchment for Denis Malgin.
4. Traded two second round picks and a 3rd round pick for the corpse of Mark Giordano.
5. Traded Petr Mrazek and a 1st round pick for a 2nd round pick.
6. Acquired Matt Murray and only got a 3rd round pick and a 7th round pick as the sweetener.
7. Traded a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick, a 3rd round pick, Adam Gaudette and Mikhail Abarmov for 24 games of Ryan O'Reilly and 23 games of Noel Accari.

With the Penguins, the Karlsson trade was dim-witted at best, and I can't fathom why he takes on contracts, like Rielly Smith and Kevin Hayes without being compensated much better than he has. How he managed to trade Jake Guentzel and somehow not receive a 1st round pick back was absolutely baffling.

I think he's the worst General Manager in the NHL and his inability to make a trade without getting bent over his desk is a huge part of the issue.

I get why he would be gun-shy of making trades because of how bad he is at, but another huge issue with him was all of the talent that he just had walk away during his time in Toronto because he somehow thought his team was a cup contender so he didn't trade away expiring contracts and he bungled the swap so badly he couldn't re-sign the players.

Guys that had actual value who simply left as free agents like Jake Gardiner, James Van Riemsdyk, Tyson Barrie, Fredrik Andersen, Alex Kerfoot, Zach Hyman, Ryan O'Reilly, Nick Foligno decimated their depth, and then his free agent "replacements" were so bad, he would then have take a loss just to trade them away (like trading Petr Mrazek and a 1st to cleverly acquire a 2nd, or trading Nik Ritchie and a 2nd round pick for 38 games of Ilya Lybushkin, and having to take on Ryan Dzingel, too.

Much has been said about his, shall we say, generous negotiating ability when it comes to free agency, but what is equally hilarious when it comes to free agents is some of the choices he makes. Imagine having a young team that is brimming with talent, but just can't get it done in the playoffs and you want to change the culture of the room and bring in a veteran that knows how to win.. So you sign... Joe Thornton?

He's just a terrible, terrible General Manager.
