Rumor: Dubas has told other teams "everyone is available, except 87."”

Meh, bad GMs have heaters all the time.

You do realize I cheer for a team that had Jim Rutherford guide us to two cups, right? JR was considered a pretty shit GM when the Pens hired him. And outside of that brief window where he went on a tremendous heater and made nothing but right decisions he largely was. His tenure outside of the two cups with the Pens was terrible. But he still got the two cups.

If JR can string together a good stretch, so can Dubas.
JR was actually qualified for the job though. Dubas has absolutely zero understanding of the sport and drives out the hockey people everywhere he goes.

It's hard to compare both teams though, the Caps for the most part kept their picks along the way while the Pens gave them up like candy on Halloween.
And in the process went to 4 finals and won 3 cups, along with 18 straight PO appearances.

Yes Washington is in a better spot today than we are. But the success of the two franchises are not similar over the last two decades, so it only makes sense that today neither team is in the same place.

I don't see any indications that that is true. Who has he driven out of Pittsburgh that's a good hockey mind? Jason Spezza is the agm for example. I'm pretty sure he knows something about the sport of hockey.

I don't think Dubas lacks understanding of the sport or is driving out hockey people. That's not the issue he's had in Pittsburgh.

The issue he's had in Pittsburgh is the same one Ron Hextall had and even JR before that: a general wishy-washiness about figuring out whether to contend or rebuild. And an over abundance of loyalty to someone who no longer deserves that (Sullivan).

The Pens should be all in on contending or all in on rebuilding. Dubas has them somewhere in between, and the result is they're not contending and they might not be bad enough to get a top 5 pick either. It's a bad spot to be in.

Two-way 3C almost always goes for at least a first round pick.
Guentzel didn't even land the Pens a 1st, so I doubt Eller would. At best it will be some kind of conditional 2nd (ie. a 3rd that turns into a 2nd if the team acquiring him wins at least a round).

I mean, as a Pens fan I'd LOVE to get a 1st for Eller. But realistically it's more like a 2nd or 3rd.

I'd bet on a 2nd because Eller was traded for a 2nd back at the 2023 deadline when he was performing worse than he has with the Penguins.

Eller had 16 points in 60 games with Washington before going to Colorado for a 2nd. Granted it was a future 2nd (equivalent to a 2027 2nd at the deadline this year), but Eller performing better makes me think that they could get a 2025 or 2026 2nd for him.

I don't disagree, but you can't seriously believe a new coach will make them a playoff team. Let the great teardown begin, the sooner the better, just delaying the inevitable by making Sullivan the scapegoat
Sullivan is definitely the problem. But now, thanks to Kyle Dubas, he's one of 100 problems.

Not many are buying them as it is.
There's always a battle between the more hardcore fans and the "normies" in terms of ticket sales. We here want to see progress from our team, the casual goer is just looking to be starstruck.

Eller was one of the few guys who showed up this year.

Good move by Washington to jump on him early. He's been very good. 3rd and a 5th sounds about right, was expecting a 2nd or 3rd.

Probably would have been at the deadline. He's played far above expectations. That return is underwhelming within the division. Right on brand.

fair return imo. smart to trade him now, his value likely wasnt getting much higher and you can't guarantee his health in march.

Just fun to hate on teams that have had success so I get that.. but when you spell that out every fan would love to have their team accomplish that. Only a handful of teams have been that successful in the last 20 years.

What’s the ask from STL for Geno? Blues desperately need another top line player, especially at C. Thomas is our only center who should play in the top 6, and he’s injured.

Plus, 2 years of term is perfect with Dvorsky on the way.

I wouldn't change anything, well except maybe the last 2 years.... they should have planned it better, we can't compete anymore

dubas never had the balls to trade any of the big 4 in toronto. id be pleasantly surprised if he traded malkin or letang.
