Obviously an off-season concern for the Avalanche, but for salary geeks , how much do you think Drouin signs for on his next contract?

I guess a better question would be what would you give him ?

Likely takes another team friendly deal for 3m I’d say. At least, I would if I were him. He can win on a contender, out of the spotlight and they saved his career.

He may get 4-5m open market.

I was a huge doubter of Drouins and cant say I’ve seen enough since he came to Colorado to really form a new opinion on what he is longterm, but obviously he has found a way to be a pretty effective middle 6 forward for them.

I think it makes sense for everyone to keep the train rolling rather than chasing pay/contract ‘security’. I hope he keeps it up, it would be a great story and its hard not to cheer for him after all he’s been through.

I’d expect him to sign 2-4 years at about 1.5x his current deal

1 year 3m max.
Any gm who gives Drouin a multi year deal will be give the Chuck Fletcher Golden raspberry gm award.
You never should pay players on better year on a contract year.

Feel like a lot of these replies are people remembering the Habs version of Drouin. He's been much better since he joined the Avs likely due to less spotlight/pressure?

Regardless, I can't see him making much less than $4M on the Avs and perhaps more on the open market.

Drouin has 76 points (53 ES) in his last 86 GP.

Before you say anything, throw the "product of MacKinnon" narrative in the trash. They've only linked up for points - both assisted on the same goal or assisted on each other's goal - (8) times this season.

Drouin is a player who's had availability issues, which factors into the mix. He's happy in Colorado and already took less money to stay there once. My thinking is something similar to the Tarasenko/Zucker deals ($4.75x2), with maybe an extra 1-2 years added (he's ~3 years younger).

Normally with his Stats. He can goes 4M per year for 4 years but with njury background and he has not prove that he can produce without Stars with him. Makes him probably 2.5 M for 2 years max

I dont think hes looking to cash in given hes playing on a contender and with one of his closest friends. Heck he got a decent chunk of change from Montreal already.

Plus he may prefer it in Denver where the media spotlight isn't big.

I could see him signing for another onsie, but has to stay healthy. Assuming he does, dude is easily a 5x$5-6M guy.

Couldn't be further from the truth lmao
It is great that he is happy in COL and he should stay there. To make it affordable, COL just cannot givehim more than 3.5M and they have ton of arguments:
- availabily is the best ability, he is often injured
- does not play physical, 9 hits in 33 GP
- he is playmaking winger which pretty common

I wouldn't blame him at all. I imagine that getting recognized literally everywhere you go gets old pretty quick. It's much easier to run to the store and go totally unnoticed when everyone with cable TV service in the city you play in is unable to watch your games without illegally streaming.

I’d expect a similar deal to this year’s as he didn’t step it up from last year and (currently) is seeing more 2nd line time. Not to mention being injured so much in a contract year sadly will play a factor.

Jo would be nuts to think about leaving the Avs. I'd imagine he'd get 5m or less and hopefully signs for a bit more than a year. Nothing crazy though

"Other than points he does not bring a lot" was the problem with your post.

Ask any Avs fan, he might be the hardest backchecker on the entire team. Works hard every shift and has turned into a pretty responsible two-way player.

He brings plenty to the table besides just production(Which he's nearly a PPG with the Avs over the last year).

& with his previous struggles in a massive market, its probably best he stays where he is or at least signs with a smaller media/less hockey centric market.
