IMHO, this looks like a +/- play..... they saw -2, then +11, then +21 and thought "that's a good trend"......
"ahh **** it, the rest of our guys are gone, pull a card"
They use their last pick to sign an intern. Brews a mean cup of coffee.

Who does his game compare to?Then allow me to fill you in. FYI, I saw quite a bit of MTU this past season.
I guess the best way to describe Roy is as a puck-moving defenseman. Fluid skater with great mobility. Moves really well with the puck. Probably won't score many goals at the pro level, but has the ability to rack up the assists due to his passing skills, which are quite good.
Roy is a project, so don't expect him in the pros anytime soon. Still needs some work on his defensive game, namely in containing opposing players. His positioning is good not great, but that should get better with further development. Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that Roy is or will be a defensive liability, but it is an area that he'll need to continue to make improvements in before getting to the pro ranks.
I hope this helps.![]()

Flying under the radar? Matt Roy is leading low scoring Michigan Tech in scoring this season, with 15 points in 27 games. He is also leading them in PIM with 66. Third year and turns 22 in March. Right handed D, listed at 6'1" 200, but that was his listed ht/wt the day he was drafted.
Just how good is he?

Good catch! Maybe the Avs can take this guy instead of LaDue?
Maybe the emergence of Roy is why management felt they could part with Cernak? 2nd leading scorer on a division champion is nothing to sneeze at.
74 PIMS seems like a lot for a college guy although, to be fair, I haven't checked NCAA penalty minute stats in a long time.
Just looked...appears to be 15th highest total in the NCAA.
