NHL Draft lottery race - Bruins currently have 6th Pick

Would just be two teams who finish behind the Bruins getting into the Top 3

That makes better sense, thanks. I was looking at the rules and the tankathon chart and attempting to make sense of it, but I have only been out of bed for 45 minutes or so. What I don't get about the tankathon chart is how the Bruins have a 0.2% chance at the 3rd overall.

How do the lottery odds work? Anyone know?
i'm not an accountant/math genius these days, but a few things i know:

-there are 2 different lotteries for the #1 and #2 overall pick

-there are 1,001 combinations of 4 numbers drawn, which are divided up amongst each team's
lottery odds. there is 1 combination that creates a "re-draw"

-teams can only move up 10 spots, so anyone who wins from 12 through 16 moves up 10 and the
team with the worst record retains the top pick or #2 pick

-you can only win the lottery twice in a 5-year period (i'm not sure if that means just the #1 pick
or if that includes the #2 drawing as well)

LFG sabres...do it in OT today!!

  1. A first draw determines which team wins the No. 1 pick.
  2. A second draw determines the No. 2 pick.
  3. If a team from outside the bottom 11 wins, they can only move up a maximum of 10 spots, meaning the worst team in the standings is still guaranteed at least the third overall pick.
After the first two picks are decided, the remaining teams are placed in order of their regular-season standings.

Do u know how many balls each team gets?

flyers getting the new coach bump so far
Looks like the flyers are taking this one against Buffalo. That’s okay with me with them at 75 games played and tied with the Bruins at 69 points.

Buffalo has played pretty well down the stretch here too and they have more games in hand. Maybe they can pick up some points against teams I normally wouldn’t expect them to beat.

doesn't work like that. for example - say team X has a 20% chance to win the lottery.
that team is given 200 different 4 number combinations. the lottery machine draws out
4 balls in order, and that's the final number combination. they then go to a spreadsheet
and whichever team matches up with those 4 numbers gets the pick.

update: it is 14 balls in the machine

Do u know how many balls each team gets?
Heres what I found
  1. A lottery machine with 14 ping-pong ballscreates 1,001 possible four-number combinations.
  2. Each team is assigned a share of those combinations, based on their odds.
  3. The lottery takes place at the SportsNet TV studios in Toronto. The NHL uses a 14-ball, 1001 combination system. This means they place ping pong balls numbered 1-14 into one hopper. They are drawn one at a time to create a four digit sequence (i.e 2-4-5-11 or 8-2-11-4).There are a total of 1001 possible outcomes using 14 balls to draw a four digit sequence.
Using the odds above, a chart is created to indicate which team wins on each of the 1001 combinations. To simplify the process, the combo of 11-12-13-14 is not assigned to a team leaving 1000 total outcomes. The worst team is assigned 179 of the 1000 outcomes.

Each combination is assigned randomly, so each teams winning combos will be all over the map. They could have 1-2-3-4, 14-9-11-1, and 2-7-1-3, it could be any 179 of the 1000 available combos.

Yep. Flyers are getting that sweet sweet new coach bounce. Not sure how long it will last though.

Also, keep in mind they face off against the Bruins first week in April.

Since Sweeney struck out on the 7 footer at BC who can’t skate, I wonder if his new target is that 6’5” forward? See if we can put together a basketball team in Providence.

It really is shocking how out of place Letourneau looks. Couldn’t possibly have screwed up that pick any more.

The kid in BC was always a project and he moved up from prep school to one of the top college teams on this planet, which means very little ice time not to mention a huge diffeence in skill level he had to face .Lets just wait and see where he is in 3 years time before we post this type stuff.

Way too early to pull the plug on DL. His subpar year is concerning, but he should be in the USHL. What I blame Sweeney and the B’s for is not telling BC they didn’t want the kid in Hockey East, regardless of what Will Smith decides.

Spilled milk. Hopefully, he works hard this summer and he’s better next season.
