I've been looking at the standings daily and I'm curious to know if this is right:
As of noon Monday, Apr. 14:
The Bruins' lottery position cannot be higher (meaning closer to #1) than 4th. Also...
The Bruins' lottery position cannot be lower than 6th.
Before yesterday for some reason I don't think I put 2 & 2 together to know the Bruins couldn't drop below the Sabres, but despite still being able to tie Buffalo in points (at 77), they would lose the tiebreaker (I believe) based on regulation wins (Bruins max is 27 while Buffalo has 28 banked).
So to hold onto the 4th place lottery spot they need:
To earn no more than 1 point more than the Kraken (the Kraken hold the tiebreaker in RW).
To earn no more points than the Flyers (the Bruins hold the tiebreaker in RW).
So if the Bruins win in any fashion vs the Devils they need the Kraken to win or lose in OT & the Flyers to win at least one of their final 2 games or take OT losses in both games.
If the Bruins lose in OT vs the Devils, their worst outcome is 5th lottery position since they can't be passed by the Kraken. To guarantee 4th position they would need the Flyers to win or lose in OT just one of their last 2 games.
If the Bruins lose in regulation, they're locked into that 4th spot.
I would appreciate it if anyone who saw any error in this assessment to please point it out.
