The Bruins have no second line

This pick has to be a foundational piece so they trade (back)

Any of the C or Martone work ~ all should give you that Foundation to build a strong line 2
Let’s hope they have a chance to draft a first line center right?

I know you like this latest first line with Lindholm but he’s not a 1st line center. Ideally we get a Hagens/Frondell/Desnoyers and one of those guys becomes a first line center.

But yea…if they are top 6 within a couple years, great.

O’Brien getting lot of attention ~ the Krejci vibe someone brought up seems appropriate, even a right shot, similar build center

Today in Athletic

O’Brien has been an excellent junior player as a leading player on a top OHL team. O'Brien displays the high-end patience and vision to hold onto pucks for an extra second to make difficult plays and run an NHL power play. He's extremely skilled with the puck, showing the soft touch and quick hands to create a lot of scoring chances and improvise on difficult plays often. He's a decent enough skater. His game can lack pace at times in part because he pulls up to make his skilled plays too much, but when he gets going, he moves well. O'Brien isn't overly physical, but he gets to the net to create chances, can kill penalties and isn't a pushover. He projects as a very good top two line center who could score a lot in the NHL.
An excellent playmaker to
Serve Pasta …..i melt

You and I have the same thoughts.
O'Brien reminds me of Potsy, not a bad thing, but I think he is rated too high.
Watch the film on Desnoyer, 80% of his goals he scored would have been stopped by a good junior goalie.
If we are picking in the top 5, one of these players below will be available / would be happy with one of these.
Martone's skating speed worries me. If he can improve on his north to south speed and edges, he will be a very good NHL forward.
McQueens skating is even worse vs Martone's, so scratch him off the list.
Eklund reminds me of Willy Nylander.
I think he has great offensive upside. He needs to add some weight. His skating is NHL ready.
The transition to a smaller rink will take him some time to adjust to.
Frondell is big and strong on his skates, his skating is okay, moves better vs Martone and McQueen and is definitely more skilled vs Desnoyer and O'Brien.

Misa
Schaefer
Hagens
Frondell
Eklund

So they clearly got 4 guys on their radar which probably bunmed them out dropping to 5 hopefully temporarily

Wonder who they are
You might be right Dan, but at the time I spoke to him, they weren't even picking in the top 5. I was trying at the time, to get his impression of O'Brien because I was seriously considering him ahead of Martone. Even before Central Scouting.

Im sure i will see him in a rink again through the remainder of the playoffs so i will try and dig a little deeper.

Assuming misa, hagens and schaefer are gone and bruins pick 4th who would you select?

I wont underestimate the premium placed on big, right shot dmen. Which is why I could see a kid like Mrtka rise up the rankings, potentially bumping one of the centers and/or Martone down a bit. We'll see though.
I actually could see the Kraken taking Mrtka. They need Defensemen in their pipeline.

Doesn't help the Bruins, but still haha.

That’s what Dom says but there is no guarantee San Jose is willing to give up assets for shaefer over misa. And maybe San Jose knows the bruins want a centre and don’t bother knowing they still could get him.
That's true and if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen. I'd look at any offer as long as we stay in the top 5 or 6. I just think San Jose does really want Schaefer. They have Cellebrini. They have their goalie prospect. They need a franchise D man. Schaefer is the perfect guy for them at this stage.

We can always keep the pick and take Schaefer and then work on getting a center maybe. Eventually I think you end up moving Lindholm though otherwise you have too much invested in D and not enough on top 6 forwards to play with Pasta.

Bruins win first pick
Do you
A) pick Shaefer
B) pick Misa
C) let the auction begin with Chi/SJ

Would would it take...
I'm greedy but this year 1, 2026 1st, 2026 2d

tough one, they need a top line center but I could see some thinking Schaefer is far and away the best option. I think most would just take the top pick.

Me I got my heart set on Frondell which should go either 3rd or 4th. Cant see him going past 5 which is why I am pissy about the point they picked up as I am pretty sure Philly (please win tomorrow) is targeting him.

So I would entertain trading the number 1 pick to 3rd if it was worth it. But again I am biased because I think Frondell is going to end up the best forward of the draft or at least the highest goal scorer maybe not the most points. It’s just his power shot and lateral movement side to side and back and forth on his one timer is very much like Pasta. That sneakily ability to gain an inch to get off it even when covered is a rare skilll

Folks are making this Schaefer out to be another Makar and honestly I’m a bit cynical
Yeah I call it the legend scenario where since he has been out since World Juniors his legend has grown even larger. It’s because people are only remembering the “good times/plays”. It’s possible he still would have ran away clearly with the number 1, but also he could have hurt his stock this year if the rest of the year he struggled. Misa has a bigger sample size and look even he was hurt a bit with his playoff performance. Schaefer basically got hurt at the highest point of his stock and that’s all people remember. We don’t know how good or bad he would have been for the rest of the season

Yeah people keep talking about center for Pasta or whatever… what this player needs to be is the center piece of the other line. Bruins had Bergeron and Krejci, Tampa had Kucherov and Stamkos, Pens had Crosby and Malkin, Florida Barkov and Tkachuk. They all didn’t play together at 5 on 5, You can go on. Bruins need this guy to be a center piece for line 2. I think that means a driver. I don’t know if Martone is that.
