Staying top 8 is an excellent thing in terms of this draft. There’s not a lot to like about this one, but at least in the top 8 you’re grabbing some interesting upside.

Would avoid McQueen and the rumblings around his long term health, but anyone else? go for it. Personally not in love with the upside of guys like Desnoyers and Frondell but what can you do, those are the cards that are dealt. You can’t control the draft year.

I suspect we’ll see a lot of “reaching” in actual draft spots vs. public lists pretty early in this draft. With the lack of true play drivers, I think you’ll see quite a few teams prioritize attributes that are harder to address in FA and trade. (Looking at you 6’6 RD Mrtka). Thinking Eklund is your faller of the year.

Hope the B’s keep it simple. They need talent in the system at all positions. But let’s take all questions out and get some ping pong luck, not ping pong fruit.

I don’t even think you would be able to say that if you watched a whole season. Things change all the time.

I just think Hagens play style would mesh perfectly with Geekie and Pasta and that’s what I would take to the bank. My hunch that Hagens had a “down year” per se is entirely a hunch and nothing more. I think his numbers have the potential to be way better next season with essentially all of the offense filtering through him at BC next season.

My question with Hagens is his size and style. Can he play against Matthews at his size? Or against Barkov, or Aho? I tend to prefer bigger centers who can handle physical play in their own zone, and most of the good teams in the league have a big 1c. Misa is big. Desnoyers and Frondell are big and physical.

Brayden Point is an exception but he's a wolverine.

Going to be suuuuper interesting to see if that OBrien at 4 (or maybe 5 with the Euros) ranking is going to be an outlier or not.
I've watched 3 or 4 of his games so far, he's interesting. 2nd line at even strength but he is the man on the PP, classic playmaking center. I think he has nearly double the PP assists of Misa. Needs to work on his skating mechanics and get stronger to make a bigger impact at even strength but that should happen.

Is that an argument for or against though? Aho is a very good player, and his playoff record overall is decent. I still question whether he's a game-winner and has enough cut through against quality heavy teams. He plays for a team that can't get over the hump in the postseason, and if you look at when they get swept by the Panthers two years ago, he was pretty invisible in that series. Of course it's not fair to pin too much of those facts on him personally, and you could counter-argue, for example, that against the Rangers last year he was strong even in defeat, but still, makes you wonder.

No comment on Hagens in particular, and I think in principle smaller centers can be very effective. It's probably just that little bit harder for them to be so against the heavyweights. On balance then I think it should be a factor in your draft calculations, but not a deal breaker.

He said he was concerned about Hagens size going up against guys like Barkov and Aho.

If Hagens was 6’1 he’d be 1 overall with a bullet. His size is already baked into where he’s ranked.

A 3 point game in Buffalo please

@Alicat Sacco certainly sounded like a person who knows he will be fired

The Bruins need a new and more talented head coach but I hope Sacco is not completely 'fired'. He is a good, hard-working guy who knows the players and the organization well and is clearly respected and there should be a place for him working with the players in some capacity. Not as an assistant again - that would be too awkward - but there are other roles he could fill.

If Joe prefers to seek a job elsewhere then by all means good on him, but if he does want to stick around they should at least try and accommodate that. He did a respectable job in tough circumstances, I think it's just pretty clear that the Bruins need to aim higher and properly overhaul the bench if they're serious about bouncing back up to the pointy end.
