NHL Draft lottery race - Bruins currently have 4th Pick

Come on...............

Every team in the League -- bar none -- would have given a king's ransom for that so called 1.5C Bergeron.

By definition every year there are 30 or so "#1 Centers" so I get it that there is a wide range in quality/strength.

However, using your bar, apparently there were only two or three true #1 Centers in the League while Bergie played.

Honestly during a lot of Bergeron career there were IMO 6 other centers that people would put as absolute #1C that will enter the HOF.

Crosby, Malkin, Thornton, Toews, Datysuk and Getzlaf. You can add the older Staal and Zetterberg as true #1C also.

So that puts Bergeron amongst 9 really terrific Centers, which is close to 1\3 of the NHL having #1C, not 3-5 like DaBroons thinks.

So Pittsburgh and maybe even Detroit may not have traded for Bergeron
when they faced each other in the Cup Finals, even if Bergeron wasn't concussed.

I think people need to pump the breaks on these players making a significant impact next year. Makar played 2 years after he was drafted at UMass and didn't truly breakout until his 2nd NHL season. Then you look at Bedard and Celebrini, both rated higher than any F in this draft and both got injured their rookie year. As great as Lane Hutson is he played a full year at BU as did Will Smith at BC. Ryan Leonard did 2 at BC.
i don't think this can be emphasized enough. Odds are all these guys are a couple years away. Which is why taking a guy based on current positions of need is kind of silly, just take the guy you think will be the best player.

I want Marner and Lysell on the right wing long term, as well as Pasta obviously.

Can Martone play left wing? Would be interesting having 2 right handed shots at LW1&2 in Martone and Geekie.

Penciling in Poitras at RW3 is setting him up to fail. We’ve seen him on the wing it doesn’t work. This team needs wingers playing wing and centers playing center, please. We have enough natural centers playing wing on this roster.

I'm most looking forward to all the posts we'll have in here blasting Sweeney because he didn't pick the particular player they wanted. It will be fun.
O' it'll happen as sure as the sun rises in the east, but this is a draft where Sweeney can't miss. Imo basically just off from highlights and reading articles its Schaefer and then Misa and then a group of Hagens, Frondell, Desnoyers, Eklund, McQueen, Martone, in no particular order. A lot of love for O'brien out there, as well. If he goes off from those guys with a top 8 pick bring out the torches!

Should be fun leading upto May 5th or 6th and then June 27th/28th

Of the 9 players you mentioned only Hagens and McQueen give me real pause.

As a fan, I’d like to see a dynamic offense center who creates chances and can push the pace.

I’m not looking for Selke candidates. Sick of that mantra. And I’m not looking to have Sweeney draft yet another “big center” who can’t play top 6.

When you draft this high, I want to see talent and skill. Give me the consensus “highest ceiling” center left when they pick.

I can't answer for our fellow poster, but I would like my crack at a #1C to come with a body that's a little bigger than 5' 11".

His size gives me pause.
Which of the following also give you pause because of their size, keeping in mind that Hagens doesn't turn 19 until November? Hagens is 5'11 180.

Tim Stutzle - 6'0 190
Nick Suzuki - 5'11 207
Connor Bedard - 5'10 185
Sebastian Aho - 6'0 180
Jack Hughes - 5'11 175
Brayden Point - 5'11 175

Need I remind you of the long list of meh the Bruins have drafted in an effort to get their coveted “big center”.

Colborne
Frederic
Beecher
Leterneau

If I’m not mistaken those are all oversized centers taken first round.

Needless to say I think size should be irrelevant when drafting this high. And whomever is in the Bruins room pounding the table for these big centers needs a new job.

With the exception of Brayden Point, I don't think any of those guys have made it very far in the playoffs.

Remaining schedules for relevant teams. I think if the Bruins want a top 5 pick, losing 2 of their last 3 is pretty important.

I could see this, Neely influence big time here thou, but Martone maybe as close to anyone to NHL ready and he's that Prototypical bruin type of player.
Skating concerns make me want to steer clear of Martone. Would prefer Frondell. Eklund is interesting to me. In the clips I’ve seen he has a crazy motor and drives pace of play.

I get McQueen with the Back injury, but curious on why Hagens ?

Hockey isn't a contact sport, its a collision sport played best with speed, skill, aggressiveness and physicality and Hagens is the least aggressive and physical
of the top C in this draft. I can't see him at his size out playing top 6 C or top 4D
on playoff teams.

Look what's happened to Toronto and the struggles with their skill guys. He didn't come close to the production Will Smith put up playing a decent amount with the same players Smith did.

Yeah Eklund reminds me of a young Marchand minus the chirping. Definitely has a high compete and motor level for sure.
