Just looking at goalies that I know have played in college, I haven't seen 1 that spent only 1 season in the NCAA and then went straight the AHL/NHL. Most spent 2-3 years in college and then signed. With Hampton, we drafted him out of High School, not even the USHL. Now he's excelled at almost every level so far, so I don't think its out of the realm of possibility they could sign him sooner than that proposed timeline, but just basing off what I've seen in my brief research, that would be unlikely.

Slukynsky looks like he'll be the backup (with the potential to take the starter's job if Augustine slips) for the States at the 2025 World Junior.

Granted, 2 seasons ago high school and only 6 games this year at Western Michigan. But geez oh man.

Ryan Miller, Michigan State 1999-2002. Before he turned into a beast for the Sabres, he was a monster for the Spartans back when the Michigan-Michigan State hockey rivalry was at its absolute peak.

Yannetti talked about the 'timeline projection' with Slukynsky and George, on a KOTP show, a few months ago....Yannetti projected George this yr and next in the OHL and then play with the Reign (he didn't say Kings or Reign, but only 1 NCAA or CHL goalie per decade skip AHL, seemingly...Barrasso, ie) and then Slukynsky the following year...as if he's going to play 3 yrs in college. I wouldn't be against Slukynsky going pro after this year. (if he wants to) But why play 3 years of college?
He may want to try to get in, before George. If he knows George is going pro in 2 years, he may want to go pro after this year. Otherwise, he may see his path take 2 yrs longer...or worse, he may entertain the thought of playing 4 years college and going free agent.

I honestly was a bit baffled at the George pick at #57. I was hoping Teddy Stiga would fall...as I watched picks go off the board live...and he went #55 to the Preds...and then I was hoping Jacob Battaglia and he went 62 to Calgary...of course, he's killing it in the OHL this year, among top scorers.
I just thought with Slukunsky in the system, why take George? The Kings have few, if any, sure fire top 6 forwards or top 4 d in the system.

If Slukynsky keeps his play at this level all season and I'm the Kings...I am asking him after the season if he wants to sign.

I really like the NCAA for goalie development. I don't have any really particular rationale other than being a fan of the game/training structure.

I really like the NCAA for goalie development. I don't have any really particular rationale other than being a fan of the game/training structure.

There's probably a lot less wear and tear, as they usually only play on Friday and Saturday. And the rest of the week (along with scholastics) they can work out in the gym to build core strength.

In Slukynsky's case, he and Rowe do a 50/50 split. Rowe plays Fridays - Slukynsky watches to learn, then plays Saturday.

It's honestly a great environment both mentally and physically for a Freshman goalie in particular.

I'd want Slukynsky to at least play 2-3 years of college and then entertain the thought of turning Pro...what's the hurry he's either better than George or not...did like the play of Portillo at the NHL level even though he has to clean up some things he is huge while Slu and George are 6-1,6-2 on a good day

Ideally, I'd say Hammer should play all 4 years at WMU, but another year after this at minimum. That gives you roughly a full season of Hammer in the AHL before George shows up to push him for playing time.

Would like a bit of separation so they aren't both turning pro at the same time.
