Quite remarkable, isn't it? Has this happened before? Aho is the only one already drafted in the top 5. Also there are Juolevi and Tkachuk in the top 10 of the draft eligible players.

Also note Pulju is leading the tournament in both goals and assists.

Guy is going to be a beast and Ovechkin type size within 2-3 years.

This seems pretty unprecedented to me. The phrase "This is a 19 Year old's tournament" gets uttered so much as to be cliche. This draft is going to be unreal, and that follows a pretty great draft crop last year as well.

Obviously some of these guys are heading to the NHL next year, but not all. With that in mind, think about how stacked the rosters are going to be in next year's WJC! :amazed:

Yeah.. Laine-Aho-Puljujärvi will be back next year if not in the NHL. I don't think they will be in the NHL.

Saarijärvi, Nättinen, Juolevi and Saarela too.

He's so pretty out there! :handclap:

was considering making this thread too. really is amazing how much the 17/late birth year 18 year olds are doing in this tourney.

I honestly feel like Laine and Puljujarvi, as not just talented guys, but massive players as well, are pretty much NHL ready. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them make the show next year. You know Matthews will as well. Anyone else would probably be a long shot.

I think this tournament is going to become more and more of a 17 and 18 tournament. All the skilled 19 year olds are in the NHL. In the Cap Era we have seen how important having impact players on entry level deals are. Teams are getting their prospects into the NHL faster and faster.

Yeah it is really cool to see. While he hasn't been as dominant as these guys, draft eligeble Rasmus Asplund has stepped in to center W Nylanders line and dome a great job as well. Look out for him, he plays a very North American game too. Not afraid of going to the front of the net.

Every time I hear Bob McKenzie parroting this, his and Hockey Canada's favorite catch phrase, I want to punch him in face. :)

If Puljujarvi would be NHL-ready now, shouldnt he had better stats from the finish league or what is the deal there?

This tournament might do wonders to Laine and Puljujärvi confident wise..

No, and No

Definitely not ready but he has always done 2.5 to 3 ppg against his own age/ with is comfort zone. It's not surprising he does it again.

The 'deal' with Finnish Elite League is.. it is an Elite league, people watching stats only simply has no an idea. I was looking Puljujarvi's team games at live when Kyle Turris was playing there. He didn't show up much, had a good glide but with anything else he looked very mediocre. FEL is competitive as league can be, addition to that it is not a scoring league at all. Kärpät is the most role oriented and rigid of them all. Finnish players and players in FEL generally has extremely difficult road to unleash their productive game.

This junior team is 100% opposite. It's formed totally different than FEL teams (it wont give a real picture either). That's the deal there.

I'm really surprised by this. Usually even the brighest draft-eligible players are having a tough time in this tournament but this year pretty much everyone has been stellar. Not just Laine, Matthews and Puljujärvi but also guys like Tkachuk, Nylander, Asplund and Juolevi. That's really rare. The thing that strikes me the most is that the best line in the tournament consists of two draft-eligible players in Laine and Pulju and a '97 birthday in Aho. In the 8 years or so I've watched this tournament I don't think I've ever seen that happen. It's usually dominated by the 19 year olds. Maybe it has more to do with the '96 crop being weak all across the board, I'm not sure, but the top-end of this draft looks quite promising. Makes me kinda wish Chychrun and Dubois would've made Team Canada. Then you'd potentially have the entire top8 represented.

I think the the scoring stats are a bit if not skewed then at least helped by the unbalanced groups. But at least for once scoring isn't Finland's issue.

Surprised no one mentioned that Aho was drafted in 2015 by Carolina in the 2nd round already.

Interesting statistics... Got Matthews' nationality wrong though.

Yeah I don't think Puljujärvi is ready for the NHL yet. I think he will play in the AHL.

I would say that AHL would be a risk for Puljujärvi. I am quite sure that he will continue one more year in SM-Liiga. There is a better chance for him to develop here and grow one year older before moving to a totally new country with all the culture and language problems.

It would be interesting to see him in Jokerit KHL team also. That would be a possibility for him to see more international games and travelling before going to the North America. But is Jokerit interested in this kind of deals at all?
