There are a lot of comparisons made and not a lot of them seem like they fit.

Not sure if this has been posted or discussed. Credit to draft dynasty YouTube channel, but Peter Forsberg - at least stylistically looks pretty spot on. God willing it translates to the NHL.

I watched a whole bunch of Draft Dynasty's videos on the 2020 draftees a couple weeks ago. I spent the rest of the day reading everything in a French-Canadien accent...

The Columbus board makes their selection today. Us tomorrow.

Prospect Info: - Team Board Mock Draft

This is one of the beautiful things of HF Boards. Having each individual fanbase pick and making it one big draft. It's amazing. I wish they would go further than the 1st round. Maybe 2 or 3 rounds.

But this is always my favourite collaboration

Who the EFF is Gilbert Perrault?

#1 overall pick in 1970 out of the Q. Buffalo and Vancouver were 1st year expansion franchises that year and Perrault was the clear #1. Buffalo won the right to draft 1st. Vancouver took Dale Tallon 2nd. Sitter who went #8 to Toronto I believe turned into the next best player in the draft after Perrault

Pronman having Zary at 11 but Lundell at 18 is quite a hot take in his final rankings

This is what happens when people only watch EU prospects when they play in the WJC (either u18 or u20). When a player misses a tournament due to injuries or simply not being called up, they drop. Luckily, scouts look past this and watch these kids play in league games.

Button listing Alexander Holtz as a LW tells me all I need to know

besides #1, this pandemic didn’t do scouting teams any favors. Lot of talent yet who are the better, the best, the risks, etc? Can only imagine the pressure on an org like Ottawa who has so much riding on this draft too. So many picks and how closely did they follow everybody?

If teams have scouted properly, they have seen these kids for the past 2-3 years and should have enough information to go on. If not, they just haven't done a good job scouting.

However, we all know the draft is a crap shoot outside the top-10. maybe even the top-5. This isn't the NFL draft where players are 21-22 and ready to step in imediately. It's a gamble and to a degree you can limit the risk by doing your job scouting them

It's not as if Lundell is universally loved by scouts, though. The Black Book has him at 25.

They go pretty deep into their concern about his skill nearing an early plateau, and about whether he can continue to compensate for poor skating technique with powerful strides as he attempts to move up levels.

I would say that he will definitely go top 15 at the very least, but he also gets off easy with criticism on HFBoards, in my mind. If we were picking in the second half of the top 10 in this draft, I wouldn't want to take him; and even in the 10-15 range, it wouldn't be a given.

2-3 years ago they were 15-16 years old. The year closest to the draft can be the difference between going 5th and 35th or beyond. Many of these kids played little over the past year. There was little to scout. This is go back to your notes and hope. An Ottawa has to be concerned with all these picks.

.

if Lundell goes 25th lol. Honestly, if he goes 15th after all the love . . . what does that tell us?

big kid, good skill, etc i’d say is Top 10. If slides beyond lol, that says a lot.

Think this has been discussed what seems like at least three times in each draft thread, lolol.

I would recommend Scouching on Youtube or CrossBarrHockey to get a better analysis from players. Draft Dynasty isn't the best, although it's good for a quick glance. He focuses too much on clips and seems to favor certain players, or over stating the negatives/positives on some players.

Saw that. Agree.
Would be great if we didn’t wind up with Bourque again though.

I don't think scouting was a massive issue for this class, outside U-18's, playoffs and the combine. Most teams got to look at the Hlinka, WJC and majority of the season to get a decent basis.

Yes, it still will be an even bigger gamble and jumping around the consensus, but I would have to think that the 2021 draft is not doing anyone any favors (outside of European prospects). Hlinka and the early season already done. Thank god there actually might be a WJC, but even then it's a small (albeit big staged) tourney.

I really don't get the obsession with Bourque. Offensively he's the playmaking version of Perreault, but takes nights off. And defensively the same. Tends to slack a lot of the way through.

I would easily take different names before his....

People are just trying to force a center in. Which is ironic because Bourque might not be able to stick there, and it’s really not a great idea to draft by position in hockey anyway.

I actually prefer DD to Scouching. Eye test vs some Poindexter with a bunch of equations.

The Rangers are not drafting high risk players with their first or second round players for a while IMO. The team to me was slow. Especially with their forwards and on the forecheck. I would suspect that they start drafting lots of fast forwards with top defensive ceilings, an edge to their game and the ability to kill penalties. The top 6 for the most part is set for the foreseeable future. They are going to need constant cheap options on the bottom six to work the cap. There won't be anymore Chytil types of picks.

The Lafreniere and Kakko lottery luck will change everything. Essentially, they will build it like Tampa now. Try to get a 3rd and 4th line that keeps the puck out of your own net and then wait for one of your stars to make a play to win a close game.
