I'm not looking for a superstar but why are so many people in favor of getting a guy that has bottom 6 potential in the first round? I know that the NHL bottom of the first round is a crap shot but at least try to get someone that has top 6 POTENTIAL. Give me a guy with top 6 potential that is less likely to get there than a guy that's a sure fire 4th liner at some point. This is the part of draft we got our two best defensive prospects. Why are we setting the bar so low?

I think that gap is fan driven more than scout/team driven. We tend to diminish the abilities of the guys we don’t like, and elevate the abilities of the guys we prefer. The end result is far more dramatic gaps than teams often view.

@Edge with the finals now over, I expect those “trade Laf” odds to drop by the day from your end....:P

We’ll see what happens.

I am really curious to see how much activity there is surrounding the draft, vs. how many teams want to get past the draft and see how the free agency market goes.
Should be a spicy time over the following week, for sure.

I think most of the guys we've talked about whether Holloway, Greig, Amirov, Zary, Khushnutdinov, Reichel, Peterka, Bourque,Perreault etc. etc. have second line upside. That said the Rangers have top end and elite talent in Panarin, Zibanejad, Lafreniere, Kakko--and then support from Kreider, Buchnevich, Kravtsov, Chytil etc. No one we pick at 22 is going to be playing on our 2nd line anytime soon with those guys already ahead of them. So I think it's important to find guys who are 200' players who can maybe someday be a top 6 player but until that time can play the gritty all around game that you'd expect from a bottom 6 forward. We've gambled before also on guys we thought could be top 6 like say a Ryan Gropp who really can't play a bottom 6 role and we really don't have anything to show for it now. I want a guy who can play--who can fill a role and maybe some day he'll be a top 6 player but this guy will have to work his way into that job and it will probably take time.

There are a lot of comparisons made and not a lot of them seem like they fit.

Not sure if this has been posted or discussed. Credit to draft dynasty YouTube channel, but Peter Forsberg - at least stylistically looks pretty spot on. God willing it translates to the NHL.

You bring up Gropp but he wasn't really on anyone's radar where he was picked. I'm thinking of a guy of Miller's caliber.

In our current situation, Holloway becoming a quality bottom 6 player that plays a bit like Kreider is a win

It's ok.

It's not a win if we pass on an opportunity to get a quality 2/3C (including if we pass on an affordable trade up to do so).

Who the EFF is Gilbert Perrault?

Probably the second best player, behind Hasek, in Sabres history.

I don't know if I like the description that they have there for Alf though. I'm not sure if he has top-end speed, and I'm not sure if "leading rushes" is something that is defining about his game.
