There are a lot of guys I'd be happy with at 22. My only point was that if you're expecting Jarvis to be on the board, you're probably setting yourself up for disappointment. I'd rather assume he won't be there and then if the Rangers somehow draft him at 22, I'll jump for joy.

I agree with you and would consider it a pleasant surprise.

I also think he could be a player they'd trade up for if he got within range.

I wish I knew something about the potential picks at 22 all it is just names right now. I guess I should have done a better job following this thread.

Yeah that's fair, I've consistently seen him higher on people's rankings lists, and for good reason. I only included him since I believe he was around 18 on Bob Mac's final consensus rankings list.

And while Bob's rankings aren't perfect (because it only takes one team to change things up considerably), I do find that he's a really good gauge for ballpark numbers and to see how guys are trending.

For example, Guhle and Lapierre are probably higher on a lot more team lists than most fan/media mocks have him. Likewise Gunler and Khusnutdinov are probably a bit lower.

I'd dare say Greig has a decent chance to be a riser, while Bourque could be a faller.

Probably not. It's more likely Gorton trades 22nd overall rather than is acquiring another 1st.

From a draft perspective, this rebuild kinda sucks. I wish Gorton used cap space as an asset like Yzerman is doing now. Oh well.

To do that, we have to actually have cap space.

If I had to rank those in order of how much I want them at 22:

1. Amirov
2. Gunler
3. Lapierre
4. Holloway
5. Zary

It hurts to put Gunler at 2

Curious as to the reason for the order you put them in...is it based more on upside, skillset, red flags you'd like to avoid, or who you've seen play more?

To do that, we have to actually have cap space.

And we can't do that if we want to sign or bring in guys like Panarin, and Trouba, and Kreider, and ADA, and whoever else we want to sign or trade for now.

At the end of the day, I don't think the Rangers were interested in going that approach and burning years off the careers of guys like ADA, or Shesterkin, or even Zibanejad.

Now, due in part to strategy, and a hell of a lot of luck, the Rangers have not only some top young talent, but some damn good NHL talent as well.

I kind of like the fact that Kakko, or Lafreniere, or Fox, or Miller, or Kravtsov doesn't have to come in and be a hero. I'd argue that's a potentially more potent long-term investment than adding more picks for taking on salary.

Lapierre I would have at 1 if he didn't have the injuries. Zary I am really not convinced about and I have seen him play a bunch as a Thunderbirds fan.

Amirov and Gunler have played a bunch of games where I saw things I really liked, more so than Holloway who, I have to admit, mostly saw highlights of, but didn't come away very impressed

Shakir is like a 2nd-3rd guy for me. I like his physical tools but I'm generally a bit wary of guys from Europe who haven't really produced at the highest levels yet (obviously there are plenty of exceptions). I remember people here saying we should consider Dorofeyev when it looked like we'd be picking around 10. Which at the time, I said was crazy. And still is. I think Shakir is in that same range. Although if he continues to play well that changes somewhat.
