Hoping against hope that a Schnieder or Holloway drop. But realistically setting my sights on a Kreig.

While I will be very excited to see the Rangers call out Lafreniere's name as their first ever first overall pick, the real excitement begins right after that.

Lafreniere is a dream come true and the moment I've been waiting for since I really started following the draft and prospects back in 1993. So this draft is a culmination of 27 years of waiting and anticipation.

Having said that, I almost take Lafreniere for granted at this point. I find myself really focused on that 22nd pick and who might be available there, or available for that pick, to serve as the cherry on top.

And that is the intrigue. After the expected names come off the board, let's say by 8 or 9, that is when the fun starts and you start to listen and look for possible movement.

Is there any opinion on David Ma? I know he might be a 7th rounder if drafted at all but I think it would be cool for NYR to draft a kid from Yonkers.

Same. Thank god for the Brady trade, because without the 22nd, and with having no 2nd round pick, this would otherwise be a great, but uneventful draft day.

Alright here's my final guess of the first round, I'll only do to 22 cause who cares after that for todays picks lol

NYR - Alexis Lafreniere (duh)
LA - Quinton Byfield
OT - Tim Stutzle
DET - Lucas Raymond
OT - Jake Sanderson
ANA - Jamie Drysdale
NJ - Alexander Holtz
BUF - Cole Perfetti
MIN -Anton Lundell
WIN - Marco Rossi
NASH - Yaroslav Askarov
FLRDA - Jack Quinn
CAR - Dawson Mercer
EDM - Seth Jarvis
TML - Braden Schneider
MON - Hendrix Lapierre
CBH - Dylan Holloway
NJ - Kaiden Guhle
CGY - Connor Zary
NJ - Rodion Amirov
CBJ - Lukas Reichel
NYR - Ridley Greig

Note that Greig isn't my first choice but based on info here it seems like he is probably the guy

As well. Hard to pass on the sheer talent, but he is a hard pass for me.
I think I heard he sustained 3 concussions in 10 months. With all we have learned about how they affect the brain (and they have affected me personally), while he probably says he feels incredible because he is young and 18, the scars remain and he is starting his Pro career behind the 8 ball. For the Rangers its a huge risk that you could potentially completely be losing an asset that was a 22 OA pick.

There was debate between which were concussions and which were neck issues, but still. There is more than enough there to scare me away.

I am hoping that Montreal or someone else takes Lapierre before 22 so the Rangers aren't tempted. He's a great prospect but the injuries are too much for me to want to take a chance

Today is the day!!!

What im hoping for...

#1st Overall: Alexis LaFreniere. Im so excited that the club is finally getting 1OA. Can't wait to see LaFreniere in a Rangers sweater. So much to look forward to. For a draft fan, that is a die hard Rangers fan this day is literally a dream come true. Lets get this one right NY. Draft and develop a legitimate leader, bonafide NHL All Star and hopfully a guy that will help raise a cup one day here...right here in NYC!

#22: Marat Khusnutdinov. Plenty of talk about him here. Some don't love him. He's not even on some radars, but I really like the player. It was good to know that he is on the Rangers radar after Edge's post the a couple weeks ago. Even though he didn't seem as high as some of the other names. Maybe they can add a 2nd and snatch him up. Truthfully i am not even certain he will be there at #22.

What I think will happen...

#1st Overall: JD and or Gordie take the podium, or the...Zoom call. Not really sure how this is going to go. Maybe some quick words for the Tampa Bay lightning. Then Gordie in his best Clint Eastwood eyebrow raise, selects LaFreniere.

#22: We have a trade to announce...

NY Rangers trade pick number #22, Anthony DeAngelo and Ryan Strome to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Evgeny Malkin and pick #77.

I think JD's influence is going to come through here today. JD gushes when he talks about Malkin. I think he's a player that Davidson has always wanted. This isnt the deal, im personally hoping for. I would rather see a cost controlled #2 center, but this is the deal I think the NYR's are pulling off today that is out of left field.

I'd be raging if that trade happened.

Would anyone be opposed to taking a d-man at 22? Guhle?

Guhle I keep hearing "is not good at hockey." He seems like a project who has size and speed but is a big time projection.

I think I'd stay away.

Never thought I'd say this, but Malkin has become one of the most underrated players on HF.

If I'm trading pick 22 and TDA I want someone young and cost controlled and not someone well into his 30s who can walk in 2 years time (just as we are about to make some noise). People are always looking for a shortcut.

If you're trading pick 22 and TDA you want someone who's not Evgeni Malkin.

The Pens would crack up and slam the phone down.

I only hope Laf doesn’t go bust bust. A possibility that never gets discussed ‘round these parts.

...but unfortunately it has crossed my mind.

Yay let's pony up even more for Malkin and his 9.5 mill cap hit so we can buy him out this time next year.

I too am excited about this.

One thing about it not being in Mtl...I wanted to see the Rangers hand Alexis a sweater with the number 1 and Lafrienere on it. Was a big Eddie fan as a kid and though he definitely should have his # retired i miss seeing it in action. Seeing the number on the sweater is literally my oldest Rangers memory.

Quietly, New Jersey is on the verge of putting together some nice pieces.
