I don't think Holloway's going to make it to 22. Raymond doesn't fall. He gets grabbed by Ottawa at 5. The Senators will look at Stutzle and Raymond as 2/3rds of a future 1st line in one draft. Barron all year long has been a 2nd rounder and Brisson is going to join him. I think Khusnutdinov sneaks into the first round late.

I would be fine if the Rangers took Holloway at 22 though. I am wondering what the f*** is going on with Strome though--I think the idea is to trade him.

Yeah, again, bold predictions that could happen...

I could see Holloway dropping, and or Mercer, and here's why. The teams that are picking in No. 11- No. 20 all have issues that need to be address; goalie, defense, high-end talent. There will be reaches on some defenders; Guhle, Sanderson, Schneider, Wallinder, etc. A team might pickup Lapierre after exploding onto the scene early on into this season. A team might also select Askarov if he doesn't go early. Not to mention some risers and fallers that will shock most. I can see both he and Mercer falling for the more "exciting" players instead of the "meat and potatoes" types. Would leave NYR with a good prospect there.

I don't think the Sens will take Raymond and with the apparent upside not hitting as expected I feel he drops out of the top 10. The Sens will switch up the whole draft with that No. 5 pick. It's going to swing a lot of lists if they don't roll with the consensus. Raymond might start as one of those that starts to slide as teams pick their player.

I've had Barron as an early-mid 2nd round talent nearly all year, but I was roaming through the consensus and sees him as a late 1st rounder, so I had to throw his name in there. Brisson, I feel, won't be selected as high due to some lapses in judgment and skating necessities to work on.

Khusnutdinov I see dropping. He's got the motor to move and the possession game for an offense in need, but he's a long time project. He recently got his time in a few KHL games already and, rest assured, he didn't look ready. He's going to need a long time to develop and I don't think a team gambles on a project like that in the 1st round. With that said, he could be a huge payoff.

Yeah, I heard recently that there has been very little talk with him. I think both sides realize he's due for a big deal, but I don't think management is that convinced he can repeat what he has done on his own. I think they'd rather find someone on a similar reclamation path and sign him for cheap. Then they'll see how the cards unfold. I did hear though, that the Rangers qualified DeAngelo and I have a hunch that they are going to try to hold onto him for a smaller term (despite Tony probably asking for more).

[TBODY] [/TBODY]

I would think NYR would be after Mercer before Gunler, but I still like the upside in Noel.

Curious to hear your thoughts on Mukhamadullin, though? He's killing it so far in the KHL, but man is he an absolute dumpster fire in his own zone.

Very interesting on the Wennberg peice. Especially on Strome.

There are heavy rumors that Columbus is considering the buyout, in which case I think he's an immediate upgrade over Strome and mere pennies to sign him for. Stick him with Panarin/Kakko, if Chytil isn't ready, and you got yourself a solid tandem.

Agree with all and truly hope there is some chance we can get Mercer.
Regarding Raymond I've been hearing he looks really good with the start of the SHL season. I would be shocked if he drops even close to 10. If Ottawa doesn't go D they probably take him.

Raymond could ultimately still go in the top 5-10. Just feel the offense isn't translating as initially anticipated.

The one thing is see in every mock I’ve looked at is little or no surprise in the top 20 picks. You know, you just know there will be 1 or 2 out of nowhere picks before the Rangers are up.
That’s how it always goes

the draft never matches up with the mocks

I bet a guy like Raymond or Holtz falls and another guy like Lundell or Quinn rises

This is the kind of pick I'd be happy with.

Mind you I wouldn't mind either one of Holloway or Mercer. They both seem to be well rounded players who if they don't hit their ceilings should still become very good 3rd liners and I'd rather go with someone like that than a top 6 or bust guy. Keeping in mind as well the 22 doesn't have to be a home run offensive player. We have top end forwards in place already who should be around for a long time at least if Mika signs another deal with us. If we didn't have top end forwards I would be more into the swing for the fences picks---but solid character guys with 200' games seems to me the best way to go at that draft position. I want this guy to be a player for us and not bust. IMO both Holloway and Mercer will play---the question is whether they'll hit their ceilings. I look at Amirov as a safe player too. He would be a good pick if available.

The 5. is where it really becomes guesswork. I mean I have Perfetti going to the Wings but if not him it's probably Rossi or Drysdale. The Sens 5. pick could be about 8 different guys---all positions--maybe even Askarov. I think the Ducks will go with either Drysdale (if still available) or Sanderson--some chance at Raymond I guess.

Brisson I'd guess early 2nd round. Barron anywhere between middle 2nd round to middle 3rd round. Khusnutdinov could squeak into the first--might drop to mid 2nd.

My opinion if Lundkvist had come over this year he would have been competing with DeAngelo for a RD spot. He might not have won but he's at the least very very close to NHL ready. Tony had a really good season--he was put in a situation that allowed his strengths to shine. He also took one for the team on last year's contract. So this year he has some justification for wanting something larger. I think the Rangers will either 1) trade him or 2) sign him short term and before said term is up trade him. It makes the most sense for our cap going forward to do that. With a flat cap for the next 3 years it makes sense to swap out a flawed offensive defenseman who's earned a big payday for a young ELC guy on the cusp of making it and who has a more all around game. If we didn't have Lundkvist coming that would probably change things but we do.
