I fully accept the possibility that after spending all this time discussing potential picks that we are going to trade the 22nd pick...but I really hope that we don't trade it before the draft like the trouba deal and wait till during the first as you see who is on the board...

first I think its the smarter asset move to see if anyone unexpectedly falls before moving the pick...

secondly for purely entertainment purposes...last year 5 minutes into the draft we picked Kakko and then the first round was done for us...no drama of hoping certain players drop or being mad when they come off the board. or hearing bettman say 'we have a trade to announce' and being excited that it might be us lol

I freely admit that I hope we hope hold onto the pick at this point. I think having two first round picks to close out this phase of the rebuild would be a nice little exclamation point.

Really don't wanna trade the pick either. Especially since we have no seconds as of now and probably won't be that easy to acquire. We missed out last year on a decent pick/prospect when we traded #20 overall. Plus still we gotta add a little more forward depth into the prospect pool.

I would be dissapointed if they traded the pick in this particular draft. I really like the potential here. Coming out of the 1st round with two legitimate prospects. Plus all the later picks. I do think there is this pressing need for the team to replace Marc Staal or add a LD. If they make a move i think this is what they are targeting. To be honest I would rather see them sign a guy like Chara for a year and keep the picks. Doesnt have to be Chara but that type of a move.

I’ll just be hanging out over here bracing myself for the inevitability that the Flyers get my guy (Reichel), he turns into a top 6 player, and they still somehow can’t manage to win the Cup.

If they move up or down while keeping the 2nd 1st rd round pick is fine with me. Would like to add a 2nd rd pick if possible. Either move down from no. 22 to, say, 28 (for an example) and add a 2nd rounder or trade a roster player for a 2nd.

Last two pick that were labeled as Character guys, with Maturity.

McIlrath
Andersson

The organization needs to replace these terms when describing a prospect.
So funny McIlrath was the first thing I thought when I heard character and maturity. As long as there are no reports from Lafreniere’s billet family that he eats hot dogs a pack at a time, I think he will be ok.

If we could trade up using hajek and grab Lundell that'd be my best case scenario :)

Hajek doesn't have enough value to get us into the range to pick Lundell. If we're moving up 1 or 2 spots, maybe Hajek gets it done, but more than that, I don't see it.

Button’s final mock draft has us taking Lafreniere and Zary in the first.

THN/SI has ha taking Lafreniere and Schneider.

A few others have us going the German route with Reichel or Peterka.

22nd plus Hajek for Calgary’s first. It would make sense given Gortons history of making smaller deals before potential larger ones and @Edge ’s Input on trade talks

I also think that that deal only happens at the draft if they hear rumblings on who Calgary, New Jersey, and Columbus are targeting

Ehhh, not the fairest comparison. Yes, Andersson didn’t work out, but McIlrath was drafted under a totally different regime. No JG, no JD, no Drury, etc.

Hajek has come up in the past, so I can’t rule that possibility out.

That was the basis of my thinking, knowing that his name has come up, knowing about the interest of swapping picks, and assuming the cost would be around Hajek to get it done.

I think we are keeping the pick. We have traded 1 first and 3 seconds rounders in the last year but I think in this deep draft especially they wanted another first rounder. Now it’s possible we move up but I doubt we trade the pick outright

I don't think Calgary does that deal, and the question would still be, who are we trading up to get?
