Speculation: Does Engvall deserve to be on the Leafs?

Does Engvall deserve to be on the Leafs?

Certainly.

I expect some more improvement in his game this year.

Skates very well, just needs to decide what game he wants to play.

100 games played, should be more comfortable this year.

1.2 is easy to live with.

12 minutes a night, could be increased.

About 5 months younger than Josh Ho-Sang.
 
Ah, yes, let's make a scapegoat out of a perfectly fine 4th line forward.

He's definitely the reason this team hasn't put it together.

How you get a #1 defenseman, a #1 centre. Keller who could help replace Marner. We have enough pieces on D then, and need another top 6 forward, like a Miller to balance out the roster. With Chychrun coming in we need to move Rielly or Muzzin. It would be better to trade Muzzin who is on the wrong side of 30 and his term on his deal over Rielly with 1 year left, but will sign a hometown discount. Would ARZ and buffalo do it? maybe not bet you have draft picks and prospects to balance out the deal, but you have the frame work for the deal.
 
What is it with guys like Engvall? When he showed up he looked like a diamond in the rough. A couple weeks later he turns into another "busy bee" like skater, who just seems to be skating circles around the ice but doesn't seem to do anything unless he happens to run into the puck.

This seems to happen a lot with the Leafs. We should name it. I dub it the "Maple Leafs Effect", or maybe "Leafs Skill Drain Syndrome".

He's 25 and is a vanilla 4th liner who doesn't have a high motor

Not likely to become a true 3rd liner ever.

Engvall is a fine 4th line guy but we have Mikheyev who does basically the same things he does. 1 of them should have been moved out

Engvall has more offensive potential and is more versatile. Not even close for me.

That was Tampas 2nd line by 5v5 TOI

The number designations aren't really important. Spezza will outscore them all from the "4th" line because they'll get offensive situations. The team wants a shutdown defensive line and those are the best personnel for that right now.
 
If I were Dubas, I'd move him. Leafs really need big bodied, blue collar types to complement the elite talent. No room for guys who won't hit. I don't dislike Engvall but Leafs can do better.

The issue is more Engvall making close to double league minimum playing on the 4th line. The same cap can be used towards an upgraded FA winger with more jam or scoring touch. Bargains will begin soon - likely closer to camp deal.

I don't understand the people who don't like Engvall. Is he the best finisher? no, but he score goals at a decent rate for his minutes. Is he a great passer? Meh. Is he a liability defensively? Nope, actually he's very good defensively.

It's like people see he's big and not overly physical and write him off.
 
Good question, poll looks 50/50 rn.

He has potential & you want more from him. In the meantime he plays when he’s on & sits when he’s off; they shouldn’t just dump him but he is expendable.
 
What do you expect for $1.25M ?

9 of the 14 forwards listed on Capfriendly make less than $1.75M while the average NHL Salary is $2.55M. (none are on ELC either)

We literally just paid Chicago's 4th line center and our 7th D the same price though.

We don't get anyone on a bargain besides maybe bunting

you want a bunch of travis boyds out there ? sure they will score but for every 5 goals they score then will let in 20.
