I think that is a tall task if he sticks with PIT, which I’m sure he will….i just don’t think he’ll continue playing long enough…he probably retires after 2 seasons after this one

It depends almost entirely on how long he wants to play - which is not something we know.

The team traded away 8 of its most recent 12 first round draft picks. The sacrificing the future goes way back before Dubas.
Yeah but it was Dubas who traded Guentzel away and thought Drew O Connor would be a fine replacement for Sid’s wing.

If he plays only the two seasons he signed for, no.

If he plays longer, yes.

675 sounds about right through 2026-2027.

If he plays out only his next contract it would be pretty tough. He’s been a 30-40 goal scorer most of his career when healthy, but he’s getting older and the team is going downhill. He has 106 in the three years before this but I don’t expect another 42 goal year like last year. He’s on pace for only 28.5 this year though he’ll likely get hot at some point. If he gets say 33 that’s another 25, then he’d need 75 in the next two years.

I say he falls just short. I can’t imagine him sticking around if the team is going to be this bad and it’s clear he doesn’t want to go elsewhere. I’ll say he just passes Selanne with 685.

He needs 36 goals a year average to hit 700 in 3 years.

I'd say with no injuries, there's a ~20-25% chance he hits that in 3 years. With injuries, much less likely.

Beyond that - it's about how long he wants to play.

I voted yes - but it's just a guess.

I really hope so, and I know he's capable of doing it. But the question is how much longer he plays, and I don't think he'll play any longer than his current contract.

The fact is he has no desire to play for a different team, and PIT isn't going to be winning anything in 3 years. SO once he's done the '26-'27 season, he'll have nothing left to play for. He'll retire, having happily achieved everything he ever wanted in his career.

So my answer is no, using by brain instead of my gut/heart.

I voted no as I think the retires after this current contract but if he carries on maybe he makes it.

I'd say so.

He has 75% of this season to go and two left on his deal, and he's averages 35 goals in the last three seasons. He has 8 so far this year which is about a 30 goal pace, assume he finishes at 625.

But, if the Pens are in the basement next year and '26-'27 which is highly probable, I could see him taking a smaller hit on a contender to do it there.

Crosby is on pace for 28-29 goals this year, not 39.

These threads should start with the facts

Before season start
592g in 1272 gp (38g per 82)
Current age: turned 37 in august
Contract status: ufa in 27-28 (3 full season)
Goals needed: 108
Goals per season, about 39. Exceeding his career average
Current pace: 8 in 24 (27g per82)

So likely no at the end of his current contract, which takes him to 40

I voted no, but not because he can’t. I don’t think he sticks around much longer with the way the Pens are trending. He can get to 700 if he requests a trade and sticks around longer to win.

Guentzel got traded away because he wanted to cash out and make bank, which the Penguins would have been dumb to give him.

It was time to move on.
Yeah let me just check what we did with that money instead… Oh, that’s right.

I am hoping yes, I don't follow the Pens, but i like Crosby. That would put him more above other greats i believe.

He is in the top 10 all time scoring leader now. That is amazing...
He will pass Joe Sakic, most likely SUPER MARIO also.
By the time he ends his career he most likely be around top 5 to 7 in all time scoring list.
Amongst the current players chasing, Only Connor McDavid has a good chance of surpassing his points total.

He'll need to play another year after his contract is over. Let's say 35+25+25 takes him to 677 at the end of his contract at age 39. One more year at 23 goals will get him to 700 at age 40.

For points let's say 80+75+70 takes him to 1841 at age 39. One more year at 60 points will get him to 1901 at age 40.

So barring injury if he plays to 40 he can realistically hit 700 goals 1900 points.
