Won the Art Ross in 2015 w/ 87 points (career high of 89 the following year)

Made the playoffs twice in his career

31 goal/season scorer for his career, and has amassed 596 points in 667 games so far

He's 28 now, so he probably has 5-6 elite level of play years left (generally regarded as one of the best 2-way players in the game today). I believe he will surpass 1000 career points w/ longevity.

Even as a Stars fan I think no. Would need to get over 1000 points and more individual hardware for me to consider him a candidate (Conn Smyth or another scoring title or something)

No, he just doesn't have HHoF worthy accolades or statistics at this point. Winning the Art Ross is nice, but it was a pretty weak year for it, and one scoring title alone isn't nearly enough.

The fact that you listed "made the playoffs twice in his career" as some sort of accomplishment should be pretty damning. A single Art Ross barely qualifies as Hall of Very Good, let alone the Hall of Fame.

Toss in another Ross, a Hart/Lindsay and another ten years of solid production and you might have a conversation on your hands.

Not at all. There isnt even a real lot on his resume outside of a olympic gold and a ross. If he was as good as he is now way before 2014 maybe but he essentially only broke out as an elite player 4 years ago.

So your conversation starts with 2 Art Rosses, a Hart/Lindsay, 3 Lindsay nominations and 15 years of high level play? That's as good a resume that any player outside of Crosby/Ovechkin level guys would have.

Technically, every eligible player who has won the Art Ross has made the Hall of Fame (and Herb Cain is the only one who has led the league before the award was created and isn't in), and the list of those with multiple wins is very small (only 15 wins, and 9 more before the award was created)

The Art Ross doesn't put him in for sure, as obviously there's a lot of other things on the resume of those that have one and made it, but it is a pretty big feather in his cap. As is his 2nd place finish the year after. These last two years though, he's back to just being another star player, and if he isn't going to be among the league leaders anymore, he's going to either need high end longevity or a decent amount of playoff success. I wouldn't say he's trending to be one as of now, but I wouldn't put it past him. As it stands though, his career is looking a little Naslund-like, who isn't in and won't make it. The question is whether a potentially longer prime than Naslund would help him make it.

The only person who is a hof lock from the 07 draft class is Kane.

With the exception of Subban, nobody else is even worth a consideration.

100% hes a hall of fame player. Since the 40's no art ross winner hasnt been enshrined in the hall of fame... So fact > opinion states hes going to be in the hall of fame. Or the last 70ish years art ross trophies aren't a large enough sample size....

The question should be stated is Jamie Benn a 1st Ballot HOF player or is he gonna have to sit and wait 10-20 years, the answer is sit and wait 10-20 years.

Depends on his longevity, production and team success...... but so far... no.

When you consider most of those wins were by multiple time winners the sample size diminishes greatly. Benn obviously won't win another one.

Benn will probably be the 1st winner to not be enshrined. And with the speed and parity of the league today, probably won't be the last.

HE needs some more hardware. Either Team or individual success. Then some longevity. Saw someone else post 1000pts, and I think that is a good start.

He sure looks like one of the guys we will be arguing about 15yrs from now.

i like that comparison, down to the negligible playoff career, though hasn’t benn been good in his limited appearances?

do the 2014 olympics do anything for benn? i can’t remember naslund ever being anything in international competition, other than the wjc.
