Do we need a top 4 defencemen next year?

Yes for sure, with the loss of Gonchar, we defiantly need another top 6 offensive D Man, not sure who though...

Wier will definitely be in the top 6, not sure where though. But a top 6 would be great. Would not be mad at all if Wier takes over

I say no, last year we did just fine with rookies playing big roles, and I have no problem with it happening again. It will be better for their long term growth to get significant minutes

Would like another top-4 guy, for sure. Not too confident with Phillips, Wier, or Boro/Gryba playing top-4 minutes over an 82 game season + playoffs.

I think Weir can step up into the top 4 next season, but him and Cowen aren't quite solid enough for me as a 3-4.

Since last version of hte club we have added Karlsson and Cowen, while losing Gonchar.

A top 4 guys is a luxury, not a necessity. A trade deadline pickup (top 4 rental) to fill in for the guy(s) that are injured sounds more probable

No, we lose Gonchar, but add Karlsson and Cowen. Plus, Wiercioch and Gryba will be in their second seasons. We'll be better off next year than we were this year without any additions.

Would it help? Obviously. Do we need one? I don't believe so. We'll see if Murray can pull something out of his goody bag, but I'm not sure what to expect in terms of top-4 D.

We're good until we hit the injury bug... So basically, we're not good.

It would be nice, but there probably isn't enough room in the budget to add a forward and a defenseman.

Well, disregarding the (more)urgent winger need, there is no doubt we need to replace Gonch if we are to move past the first or second round of the playoffs next season. We can definitely do well in the regular season though, so we can always wait until the trade deadline before making any kind of move.

Methot - Karlsson ( this one will play half the game )
Cowen - Gryba (Actually an amazing shut down line)
Wierioch - Phillips (minimal minutes, allows wiercioch to play with a veteran to improve his game, can score aswell)

- Lundin, guy is a perfect depth piece can slot him in anywhere and wont look bad,

Call up, in order.

I think we are good for defence, i see alot of people under valuing gryba, paul maclean loves this guy, if gryba just becomes better discipline, and tweaks his game a little he will be a great number 4 D.

Yes, but not for a long term commitment. 1 or 2 years would be perfect. Someone like Zidlicky if he was willing to sign short term would be perfect.

Apparently Tom Gilbert has a 4 million cap hit, 3 million in salary, and shouldn't cost much in a trade since Minny is looking to shed salary.

Either of those guys would be fine with me.

I'd rather have Benoit as 7D and I believe Lundin is off to the KHL (Someone feel free to correct me).

My input, Hjalmarsson.

We dont need another top pairing defenseman with EK playing half the game.

Having an elite #1 like him logging huge minutes means the rest of the defense doesn't have to be perfect.

Adding a offensive defenseman to replace Gonchar would be ideal, but going into the season with our current defense would be just fine.
