Do we already have a potential future Stanley Cup core with Nick & Cole? + Poll Question

Are we gonna win at least one Stanley Cup with this core?

Something quite amazing is happening to us here, for the fist time in decades we have a very young potential core thats exploding with talent, and we’re gonna be adding to this core with our 2023 1st round picks etc. We also have other good prospects already in the system.

Suzuki 22
Harris 22
Caufield 21
Dach 21
Xhecaj 21
Guhle 20
Barron 20
Farrell 20
Heineman 20
Mailloux 19
Slafkovsky 18
Beck 18
Mesar 18
Hutson 18
2023 1st round pick (x2 minimum) 17/18

Most of the bad contracts will be gone by the end of next season, we will be loaded with cap space and ready to sign some big names. We’re gonna win at least one cup in this window is my prediction.

Not even close. Even if every player you listed hit their absolute peak we're probably not contenders yet. It'll take some time.

I think we're missing that elite dynamic #1D who can QB a PP, and a starting goalie.

From there there's still holes but we could fill them out over the next couple years while our young core grows into their prime years.

Maybe Hutson helps sort that out one day.

Not yet but maybe sooner than later

If we win Bedard it change a lot of things, but if we end up with a CHL player a la Yager it will be longer.

And we will need a top pair D also, Toews should be ufa when we are done with the rebuild, Dobson only have 3 years of his contract and with NJ Columbus who are on their way to send Washington and Pittsburgh to golf early.

That division also have Carolina and NYR if NYI miss the playoff this year and if im Lou im starting to wonder if i should rebuild

Not even close, you don't even have a goalie yet. There's 4 rookies on the Blueline. The whole right side is fringe NHL material. Desperately need #1 right D to contend. That's two main pieces you don't have. Then our future second line center can't win a faceoff, has no shot. Monahan you can't risk a big contract on.

Let’s calm down!
We have nice pieces with Suzuki Caufield Guhle and Slafkovsky.

Outside of that, some depth pieces that could be interesting, lots of prospects that at this point only have potential.

Rebuilds take more than 9 months. Don’t be foooled by one fun game or one win. Stick to the process. Draft, develop, draft, develop, draft and develop.

I think our rebuild starts off better than most since we have Suzuki and Caufield and Guhle already and then got Slafkovsky in year 1, but there is a lot of work left to do

If they all hit their peaks we absolutely have a Stanley Cup core....but I feel like we still need that #1 RD, solid future goalie and one more top scorer a la Bedard.

Absolute peaks....

Suzuki = Bergeron
Caufield = Kane
Slaf = light Jagr
Dach = Monahan at his peak
Guhle = Weber
Xhekaj = kings version of Muzzin
Harris = Ryan Ellis
Barron = I don't know
Mesar = Nylander
Mailloux = another Weber
Heinemen = I dont know
Beck = RoR

Now....disclaimer....that is what I think their absolute peaks would look like. That team would certainly be cup contenders. But...huge but. ...they aren't all gonna hit it and certainly not at the same time.

You are missing an elite first pairing D, another blue chip prospect at forward (Carlsson, Fantilli, Michkov, Yager)
and a bonafide #1 goalie)

Ya, 3 more top end pieces and you’re set for a decade.

So 4 games of rebuilding and we already have our Stanley cup core?

We are missing a 1RD and a no.1 goalie for sure.
They are not there yet. And let's not trade our centers for scrap this time.

I think Bedard is a extremely long shot...more likely we fall between 3-7OVR
Need a goalie and top pair RHD still. I would gamble on Ratzlaff with Florida's pick (assuming 25-32)

With the specific question of "core," I think we have some nice core pieces to build with.

Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Guhle, Slafkovsky are all pieces with a high potential upside. Two centres, two wingers and a dman.. so it's a nice core to build upon. We need some of the kids to develop and to add some pieces in FA, but that current young core does have the potential and pedigree to be impactful in time, we'll just have to wait and see if they get there.

These are so bad. Harris like Ellis?
Mailloux like Weber? Caufield like Kane?

How is Caufield like Kane other than small American ?

You literally just put anything ….

Would need more than 2 players who do everything offensively

Suzuki and Caufield 5 goals
Rest of the team 3 goals.

Caufield and Suzuki 9 points
Rest of the team 12 points

lol.
One would suspect (hope) that, such scoring imbalance will change in the coming years as the listed prospects develop.

Why the CAPS IN THE TITLE ???

Anyway…

This team still needs a superstar forward and a #1D. So… the hardest parts to get are still missing.

Hopefully the Habs get lucky at the next draft and land the superstar forward.

The answer is easily no.

There's a lot of wishful thinking here. We MAY have more pieces, waiting to see,,,,,but as of today, for me, we have only Suzuki and Caufield.

I can say for sure that we have a 2nd line center.
We don't have a starting goalie.
We don't have anyone to run the PP
Other than Caufield, not one prospect winger has showed anything yet a the NHL level.
Although Guhle is looking good, is he really 1st pairing material? If so we have 1 out of 2 and if not we have none yet.

Let's close this thread until next summer

I'm not going to really get into the OP's question, but, I just want to mention Dobes should get some mention as a possible future answer to our goaltending situation that people keep mentioning in this thread.

To be a SC contender one of these things need to happen

1) Guhle develops into an all situation 1D.
2) The Habs draft Bedard or Carlsson and they are elite 1Cs.
3) Dach becomes a 1st line C.
4) Carey Price comes back and is in peak form.

Aside from this, theres no way the Habs are contender.
