Do the Panthers actually get away with everything?

A big thing I read is how Florida gets away with everything, there's a reddit thread here:

and it's just complaining. I don't really understand? Florida took the 2nd most penalties in the league last year and will end up top 5 this year, is the assumption the Panthers should be shorthanded the whole game?

Isn't this the entire premise of playing like that? "Well they can't call EVERYTHING".

Bad no calls, but you can't call them after the fact because of the result. My main question is whether Tkachuk taking the stick can be reviewed for goalie interference or not.

If you complain about that effort, you really know nothing about the game overall. A lot of fans clearly know nothing.

Yep, and some teams take advantage of knowing the refs really wanna keep the calls about even.

I wouldn’t argue it’s a Panthers thing, just smart strategy. Sabres are awful at it imo- Koleslar had one of the nastier boardings I’ve seen on Lybushkin, 2 minutes. We.. then tripped a guy. Meanwhile on the PK and up until that call that made things “even” Vegas was roughing dudes, holding, hooking, but if it isn’t super egregious the refs don’t wanna look biased.

That Tkachuk goal was nonsense, but until the league actually holds refs to a standard- *shrug*

The reason the stick comes out of Varlamov’s hand (and also the reason for the retaliatory crosscheck) is because he chopped at Tkachuk and the stick got stuck.

The first contact is the most questionable part. The angle doesn’t show us why he backed into Varlamov, whether it was on his own momentum or if the Islander we see briefly in frame had anything to do with it.

Is keeping calls even a hockey only thing? I don't see that in the NFL. Also, is it a newer thing? I seem to remember >10 years ago people always complaining when calls weren't even and now they are.

That clip is pretty self explanatory. Bumps right into to goalie, rips his stick out of his hand, comes back around the net from behind and crosschecks the goalie…
Refs call tend to call the retaliatory penalty. Sure Tkachuk bumped Varlamov, it was missed, but the stick was “ripped out” because Varly Hextall’d him. That wasn’t called, Tkachuk came around and bumped him, could’ve been called for sure again…instead he was there to score. And keep giving Varlamov the business. Isles barely did anything.

Again though, things were missed on both sides, and Bennet was whistled for a weak hold later on.

As an isles fan I didn’t see anything wrong. Thats his game.
Varly could have gotten called for a hook/slash. He gave Varly a little cross check and that was it. He was in the crease but the puck was loose.

I wasn’t up in arms thinking there should have been a penalty there or thinking Tkachuk got away with something.

Link didn’t post.

We get called for plenty, people are just cranky because we’re an elite team, especially since we used to be crap.

I remember a Finals game where some carried on, but there were multiple calls missed on the Oil.

And as OP stated, we were rhe 2nd most penalized team last year.

Not to mention Draisaitl blatantly elbowed Barkov, took him out for the rest of that game, plus another, and no suspension or even fine
