I was searching around capgeek today and it i got to wondering about Entry Level Contracts

I knew that a players salary changed when they got sent down to the minors compared to what they were getting paid in the NHL.

The question i have is what happens to players who are signed to a ELC but are sent back to juniors?

Do they get paid AHL salary? If they stay in junior i cant imagine a team paying them AHL salary to play with their respective junior club, however do they lose a year off their ELC contract?

So if a player just signs a ELC until 2012 then tomorrow is sent back down to Junior does he lose a year off his contract without getting paid or what happens?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks guys

If they are sent back to juniors, their contract slides for the year, meaning they do not lose a year off their ELC.

They will not get paid a salary, except the stipend they get from their junior team. However, ELCs contain signing bonuses, so signed players will have enough money to live comfortably.

Thanks for the info

Players in Juniors do not get paid on their ELS contract if returned to Juniors - other than for any signing bonus or for any days that they were on the NHL roster before being returned to Juniors.

If the player is an 18 or 19 yo and played less than 10 NHL games that year, then his ELS contract is automatically extended for a year, otherwise it ages and burns a year.

Article 9.4 of the CBA states that a major junior player may receive a max salary of $10.5k while playing major junior. It would appear that junior players do get paid by NHL teams while still in junior.
