Friedman: Stars could be player for Panarin

“Panarin - I mentioned earlier this week, I saw the four main players for a rental being Winnipeg, Islanders, Nashville, and Calgary,” recalled Friedman. “Somebody said to me yesterday, ‘Do not count out Dallas.’
“They got destroyed last night by Tampa. But if they put some guys on injured reserve as I think they’re going to for the year, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re looking at this too - for Panarin.”

Dallas already has Methot done for the year, Hanzal likely soon to follow.

Would be interested in the cost on Panarin, though I don't think Nill moves a first round pick for a rental.

Definitely could use the scoring help, either way. One of those most hot-or-cold teams in the league, either they show up or they flatline.

Last night they definitely flatlined.

with what assets though ?
Duh, Benn and Seguin. Lites storms into the GM's office screaming about last night's result and those two not showing up yet again, shoves Nill from behind the desk and out the door while screaming I am the star!, locks the door behind Nill, then races over to the phone and hurriedly calls Kekalainen to get it done, all the while breathlessly panting "whatever you want, man. Name it, it's yours, just take those freeloading bums off my payroll" into Kelalainen's ear so hard, Jarmo puts the phone across the room calls in the rest of the front office staff so they can hear it and know JK isn't crazy when he goes to tell the story later on.

Didn't Panarin have a livestream with Radulov, and Radulov asked him if he was coming to Dallas next year? Panarin said it's not a good fit because they already had Alex and Benn. He was joking, but I think there's some truth to what he said all the same.

Well with Rads usually on the right wing, and Panarin on the left, they could split the wealth I imagine. Have Panarin ride shotgun with Seguin, and have Benn/Radulov centered by Spezza. Bingo, Dallas finally has more than one line that can score.

Nichushkin can be part of the package sent to Columbus. Don't they like Russian reclamation projects? :sarcasm:

I hope they get him. They are not a Panarin away from contending. Panarin to Dallas would minimize his impact to other contenders. For example, better for the Pens that he go to Dallas instead of Winnipeg, Toronto, Nashville, etc.

yes, because he wants to be the main "attraction" of the team, in Dallas he would not.

Friedman: Stars could be player for Panarin

This seems to just be speculation on Friedman's part (passed on via Nicholson).

Dallas absolutely should be buyers at the deadline, but many of us fans agree that Panarin is going to cost too much and is unlikely to re-sign here. We've mostly been leaning toward cheaper assets (e.g. Nyquist, Zuccarello).

Why is it unlikely he signs with Dallas? I think they have a very good team just underperforming this year. I don't think CBJ will get the price for Panarin that they want.

IMO, Dallas isn't mortgaging their future and depleting an already very thin pool/system for Panarin when they really aren't one of the top contender in the West.

Do they even have the pieces for him? What would a deal look like? 1st + Dellandrea? 1st + Gurianov/Hintz+ ?

This seems like throwing something and hoping it sticks. I am going to go ahead and count out Dallas.
I do as well. A lot of us Stars fans are worried Nill may do like last season and not make a move at all.

Would be “off the wall” though if he did a 180 of last season and it actually stuck.

It’s not going to happen though.

Why would any one trade assets at this point? Hes made it clear he will be in free agency.

Shoot your shot then but way to risky at this point.

Depending on the price I’m interested. Never been a huge fan of giving up quality assets for rentals, but it would give Radulov a couple months to harass him into re-signing.
