They literally said this exact same thing about Reid in Philadelphia

Reid is worse at game management than McDermott, and it might not even be close. Good news is that's a very small aspect (though obviously the most visible) of what a head coach is actually responsible for.

Both outside recievers were pretty quiet. Did Coleman get a ball outside of the scramble drill at the end of the half?

Funky game, but a win is a win. Unless Mahomes is actually dead, which I doubt, the 2 seed and relative health seem pretty attainable. Maybe a week 18 bye for the starters.

The defense was up against one of two best offenses in the league while being absolutely depleted by injuries in the secondary + losing Milano.

It was boubd to be a shootout. Most teams can't keep pace with the Lions. Luckily, we have Josh Allen + the Lions are also dealing with a ton of injuries on defense. Big dubs!

Brady had a gameplan to exploit the linebackers of the Lions, and we saw it with all the throws to the backs and TEs. This wasn't a game for the boundary receivers, but it didn't need to be because the game plan was spot on. Bills have put on tape now that the offense is multi-dimensional.

They can run the ball.
They can beat you on the outside.
They can beat you on the inside.
They can use any receiver on the roster.
And when all else fails, Josh Allen can be Josh Allen and run or make ridiculous passes.

As long as they have the right plan going in, who can stop this offense right now?

Yeah you don’t want to be in a shootout every week or anything but sometimes it just happens. 500+ yards given up is pretty poor regardless of who you have on the field but that’s who this team is sometimes. Give Allen the chance to win and he usually will

I get no coach is perfect, but poor coaching has been responsible for a few playoff losses. I'm very happy we have a good coach like McDermott, but after a few gaffs, most people are going to be quick to point out failures when they continue to show up. The Bills winning a superbowl makes this all go away. But for now people will question him on bad calls and rightfully so.

Hes definitely grown, its just been very slow. He's not as quick to be conservative and is more trusting of his playmakers than he used to be. I want him to now be the coach that regularly outmaneuvers the man on the other sideline, not just outscores him.

The above said -- anyone who's harping on McDermott for the defense the last 2 weeks is misguided at best.

Last week, the Rams gave us their A+++ game and Nacua and Kupp were making highlight reel catches practically every other catch. OH, not to mention that when that offense is healthy -- it's a pretty damned talented offense.

This week, the Lions are LITERALLY the best offense in the NFL and we were missing 3 out of 4 starting secondary members.....and one of those was in and out with cramps. Frankly, I thought Elam held up well......even if Lewis and Bishop were shaky.

If we keep giving up 30/40 points to the Jets and Patriots, THEN I'll worry.

Some thoughts on the defense:
  • Despite getting burned once or twice, I thought Bishop was a revelation. I'd like to see more of him. His athleticism, range, and willingness to come up just changed the math against the run.
  • Kareem Jackson was awful. Hopefully Hyde gets up to speed fast because Jackson can't play anymore.
  • Spector looked awful. I get he's a better signal caller at MLB if Bernard goes down, but I see no reason for him to be playing over Williams at SLB if Milano goes down.
  • Smoot was awesome! Great having him back to shore up the run defense
  • I thought Elam was absolutely fine. If he has to be the starter at CB next year, I'm fine with it

The jets game will be interesting as they’re a bad team with all the weapons they need to theoretically do damage save for Rodgers being toast

I still say a lot of what happened last week falls on the coaching staff, be it McDermott or Babich. Stafford was carving up their zones with guys finding wide open space seemingly every play, and they didn't seem to have any answer.

This week I thought the defensive gameplan was pretty solid.

They both suck at game management. As do most coaches. It doesn't mean Reid isn't a better coach. Because he is and I don't think it's even close
 
We can make history next week. As of now we're tied with 4 other teams for the most consecutive 30 point games of all time at 8.

2000 Rams
2007 Patriots
2013 Broncos
And another Patriots team. I forget the year.

Edit- 2010 Patriots......Bad news is that none of those teams won a SB that season.

That's some pretty great company. Josh Allen is a fooking legend mate.

They were down 3 starters in the secondary and lost bishop for the 4th (I don't think he came back).

This game was effectively over after onside kick and ray davis TD.

Through 3 quarters they held the leagues best offense to 21 points

One of those TDs was a deep shot TD that Buffalo tipped and was still caught.

Literally 2 more inches that thing is in the air and falls to the ground on 3rd and 17 and we get the ball back.

I get it they got dog walked in the 4th quarter, but they were playing a deep shell with their 4th string safety in vs the leagues best offense.

I'll give you last week the defense was not prepared. that's on McDermott.

This week, they walked into the best team in the leagues house, who had 3 extra days rest AND we had a west coast game the week before. And we blew the doors off them and they got back in the game in garbage time vs a banged up secondary.

The biggest problem with the defense last two weeks is the red zone defense. 12 TDs against is not the formula.

We know the D is never going to shut people down, that's not what they've done at all this season. The "bend but don't break" philosophy will work because we have Allen on our side capable of making it hold up. But the D is breaking too much. Give up 3 TD + 3 FG and that's 30 points, which is an easy target for Allen right now. Change one of those FG to a turnover on downs and you get even more breathing room.

That's all we need the defense to do, give up FGs instead of TDs, and we'll be just fine.

Broncos D has been good, but they also haven't faced a murderer's row of offenses. Baltimore put up 41 on them. Jameis Winston put up 32 (and gave them 2 pick 6's, but still). They can very much be had by an elite offense.
