Can someone fill me in on the back story to these apparently legendary Dion Phaneuf locker room issues that took place when he was in Calgary? Because it strikes me as odd that he would have such issues as his personality seems rather robotic and dull from what I've seen in his time in Toronto.

God darn it getting so tired of these locker room "cancer, issue" threads, no he is prolly a good normal proffessional that like any other human being can get into an argument with others.

I heard when he came to Toronto he showed his leadership qualities by taking over the radio in the dressing room. Perhaps his choice of music was poor in Calgary, causing the locker room issues?

Turns on the radio his first day as a Leaf. That's captain material right there.

These guys all don't love eachother, even guys on the same team. Hard to fit all those egos in the same dressing room.

Yeah, really.

Some people just gel with others and some don't. I don't think it's fair to call someone a 'locker room cancer' just because a few team members don't entirely agree with their leadership styles or jive with them personally.

As fans we don't know much of what takes place in sports locker rooms, so I feel like most of it is just speculation that doesn't lead anywhere.

Phaneuf is fine. Just not a captain. Too much expected of him on a piss poor Leaf defence.

Best explanation I've heard yet. Flames just didn't want to pump the jam.

Iggy also called Phaneuf to congratulate him on being named captain of the Leafs. First one I believe.

Rumour, if I remember correctly was Phaneuf thought he played fine the way he was. Regehr tried to help his defensive game but Keenan gave him 25 minutes a night so saw no reason to change his game. This was probably an indicator of what his attitude was in the locker room.

Hamrlik really masked how bad he could be in his own end and his last couple of seasons here he was designated as the #1 defenseman; he was nowhere near ready for that yet. Didn't see incentive to improve as long as he could put up the points.

I love these "rumours". Fact is, unless you've ever been in the locker room with him, there's absolutely no way of knowing. Does anyone here know him personally, enough to make a valid judgment? Everything else is just hearsay.

Was he really that bad in his own end with Calgary? I remember was terrific offensively and was a great body checker. During his rookie season didn't Don Cherry say that Phaneuf deserved the Calder ahead of Crosby and Ovechkin? Dude scored 20 goals as a rookie.
