"Game management" and terrible officiating is a big reason why I don't watch many NHL games outside of the Devils anymore. It has absolutely poisoned the sport and it makes for a terrible product. It's easy to say "it is what it is", but it's embarrassing that a league thinks it's a high end respectable product with this garbage as the norm.

Try watching a NO Saints game. It makes the NHL look fantastic by comparison

I don't think there is a better option honestly.

I mean, that scrub that elbowed Boqvist in the face got nothing, but Perry gets 5 games. The NHL has always been this way. There is a huge double standard.

There is a big difference between suspensions and in game officiating. Yes, the Department of (the Perception of) Player Safety has always been terrible and inconsistent, especially when it comes to Pronger physics decisions. In game officiating used to be better, even if it wasn't perfect. The referees would set a standard early in a game for what they were going to call, and try their best to stick with it through the full game. Now it seems to be more about calling an even number of penalties or calling fewer penalties against "top" teams with star players, which is garbage that is terrible for the sport. So you end up with a situation where there is no standard of consistency within a game and you are left baffled at what the standard even is. It's killing the league as far as entertainment value goes.
