What happened?

He crosschecked him at the top of the pants/lower back when he was skating towards the puck about 2-3 feet from the boards. It's one of the best ways to throw someone off balance, and if Mueller went down he could have been seriously hurt at that distance and speed. He went over to complain to the ref when the play stopped, for good reason.
