He's produced at a rate of just under 30 points per 82 games in his career. If he produces just 30 points per year for us or in the lower 30's, that's good for a third liner and much better than the junk we had to deal with last season.

But the biggest thing is him being healthy a significant amount of games. Health is my only concern with him, it's s big one though. But I have no problems with using a rinky dink late 3rd rounder to get him.

Just watched the Shero interview about the acquisition. He was asked whether Beau was a top six player, Shero said "I think he can play top six, top nine, top seven". And I was like huh? Seven?

Then it hit me: expansion draft protection. If he doesn't work out but plays enough games, he could always fill part of that "leave 2 guys exposed" part of the deal.

Could be a Palmieri-type acquisition but on a smaller scale, Palmieri is looking to be a 1RW so if Bennett can stay healthy and gain some confidence, not much should prevent him from becoming a 2RW. Then DSP as our 3RW?

Im loving it. Shero has done magic with this club in his short stint thus far.

I have been reasonably positive really up until today, but right now I am having a hard time imagining this team being anything close to good for about five more years.

I think you just need to calm down and let Shero work his magic.

The team has done nothing but make positive moves forward, what else do you want them to do? Trade off everything for some elite talent so that we can't make he playoffs even?

The only thing I'm concerned about is the slotting of the RW's on the depth chart. This almost 100% shuts us out of acquiring any RW of consequence. Ray didn't trade for him to put him on the 4th line.

Just to give you guys an idea how often injured he is..

He played 33 games last year. If he can play at least 37 this year he'll qualify to as one of our two required exposed forwards.

It's a low risk move with a couple different ways it could pay off. Nothing to be upset about with this trade.

Well...he'd have to play 37 games to qualify to meet that criteria. He's only hit that mark once in four years :P

But yeah there's a scenario where he becomes one of the seven protected guys regardless.

Beau isn't even that good when he is healthy. I do not understand the optimism about this trade.

I'm not exactly a huge fan of the player either...but it was a low-cost move and there weren't exactly a lot of options out there to substantially improve RW unless you basically give Okposo a blank check. There aren't many other trade options as long as Chia's being stubborn about getting 120% of value for his forwards. You could argue short-term re-signing Stemp would be better but I'm not convinced what we saw from Stemp last year is what we'd get going forward and Bennett does have some potential to get better.

Yeah, I had the same thought. I wasn't so concerned about the pick per se, but I hope this doesn't preclude Ray from looking for more help.

Agreed with both but it's not like there was much to be had in terms of trading for forwards at the draft unless you wanted to flip two 2's for Andrew Shaw or Lars Eller and the UFA pickings at RW fall off a cliff after Okposo (who's gonna get a fortune) and Eriksson (who's 30 and gonna want at least a 5-6 year deal). I'm not sure how much else available there is realistically.

Ideally we're deep enough where we roll 4 lines and DSP is the anchor on our 4th. Imagine a Kalinin/Pietila-Josefson-DSP 4th line, that would be better than what our 3rd line was last year.

Elias-Zacha-Bennett as the 3rd could work
