The White-Desimone pair was a dumpster fire in both preseason games they played.

I also can’t believe Labanc didn’t get more of a look with our thin depth up front. They did him kind of dirty
my hope is they just want them there as emergency / warm bodies.

in the case of labanc, do we even have cap space to sign him? i feel as tho our Mgmt might want to keep the space open to make some more moves by deadline. i think it would’ve taken a way better performance by him to have swayed their minds from that approach.

That top 4 on D is not fleet of foot at all. Probably my biggest concern heading into the early portion of the season. Hamilton can move the puck nicely but not sure about the other 3. Luke and Pesce out really hurts our transition in the top 4. Hopefully we can do just enough to get by early while guys are working their way back towards playing.

No. They are very casual fans. If something Devils related bubbles up into the general sports environment they will notice. My oldest lives in a building with a buddy who is a Devils fan so he will will watch some games and go to see them when they play the Caps (they live near DC) but he didn’t grow up with hockey in his environment outside me watching it or play it. My youngest is a bit more of a fan. As a group they are primarily NFL fans. Then NBA then Devils. It’s proof that nurture only goes so far.

Oh bummer. Despite us living out of NJ my son is a huge Devils fan now. We watch the Canes but only causally. We go to every home opener together. Oddly he’s trying to become a Pirates baseball fan which is stupid but kids have to learn the hard way sometimes.

What do you think his ceiling is?
His ceiling if everything went right is like Quinn Hughes without the elite speed and acceleration but that’s obviously an unlikely outcome. More realistically I think he’ll end up being #2/3D two way that’ll be on our PP2 (but could be a PP1 guy) and chips in like 40ish pts. Could also be a bit better than that and be like a Spurgeon or Rafalski

Props to Casey. Came in as a 1st year pro most likely headed to the AHL and apparently secured a spot on the opening night roster. Injuries contributed to that to some extent, but it's still impressive and awesome for the future or our D core. Super excited about him as I am with Luke, Nemec and Silayev.

my big thing with Casey is what they do if he comes in and balls out? Luke will be back in a month or so

Obviously not a bad problem to have, just interesting to think about.

I imagine Nemec turns it around but if he doesn’t then Casey takes his spot. Probably would end up running 7D though instead if that happens. I don’t think they’d send Nemec back down or keep him scratched for long

Since the games in Prague are regular season don't the Devils have to be cut down to their NHL final roster number?

Don't they have to send the non waiver eligibles down, waive others in order to send them down as well, and release or waive PTOs and then if they so desire, sign them to assign to Utica? All this gets done from Prague or have they already made these decisions and it will be carried out by personnel back in NJ. Would not think they have informed players who have games left to play what their situations are especially if a couple actually play exceptionally well and turn the table on current evaluations.

Is there an actual list of the guys leaving NJ on the plane differing from the exact guys on the ice this morning?

e.g. Palat will go, but was not on the ice. Does that mean Foote is left behind?

Don't tell me they took White. That makes no sense. Neither does DeSimone when Misyul is better. Leaving better players behind to play senseless preseason games they have little chance in anyways is also dumb. Out of the 3 D listed here Misyul is the better guy moving forward.

Will this be like the playoffs when non roster players are along in case of injury to be added to the roster?

I think the roster you saw today is the roster we're starting the season with.

Though they can't waive too many people right now because they still need to have enough guys to ice a roster for 3 different games this coming week.

If they really wanted to, I'm sure they can call up anybody on the training camp roster between now and Friday and get them to Europe, if they were needed.

They can still waive the guys whenever, and keep them up through the week if they clear. They may be worried that if guys get claimed by another team that it's one less body(ies) they have available to dress for their games this week.

I'm fairly sure these games in Prague are treated differently and the Devils and Sabres, like the rest of the league, don't have to submit their final opening roster until 5pm on October 7th.

For these two games, they're able to bring 26 or 27 players and don't have to do final cuts.
