Yup. Would have actually named him in the post-game as tomorrow's starter.

Jack playing well is vital come playoffs.

I'm good with the idea of starting Campbell tomorrow due to how much of the game Mrazek played in tonight. I wouldn't reveal any such intentions just yet though, and especially not with how this game ultimately turned out.

Yup. And I totally get this POV.

Jack seems to be a guy who needs to play for someone other than himself. Having the coach tap you as the guy after getting yanked would probably make Jack sleep better tonight.

Rielly has now surpassed his point total of last year, in 15 fewer games.

I do believe you've won me over with this.

I don’t get comments like this, of course any leaf fan should be pumped leafs came back to win, but it’s also equally normal to criticize that the last 2 games were not very good games for a team that has shown their wayyy better. How is that being a hater?

Not great game for certain players but good games for others. Overall still good enough to win of course.

More just an amusing observation on the ebbs and flows of two-week stretches of seasons here and there. The Leafs are clearly one of the best teams in the league this season and there is a.....substantial portion of the fanbase here that posts overly negatively that tends to create/comment more in those type of threads (and we've seen both types pushed hard this year). I tend to a "glass half full" type of guy but it's hard not to be with a Leaf team this good (and there havnt been all that many good Leafs teams the last 40 years I can remember really)

We're getting spoiled with this group so far.

Bingo. It's getting to the point where how they win is coming under fire. But it's understandable. Very few teams have the ability to turn it on like the Leafs can. But grinding out low event games will win in the playoffs.

They were so much tighter earlier, but also Jack was playing like a Vezina winner.

I give it another Hermione applause. Getting the results, but outscoring your problems will only get you so far.

If we out score every team in every game, we will get really far.

Why?

Kerfoot has 30 points just at ES + SH this season.

McCann has 28 points total, with 10 coming on the PP.

And a shooting percentage that is higher than Matthews' right now. 1 goal off of his career high in half the number of games played.

Meanwhile, since Holl was benched after a rough 7 games, he has given up 1.85 GA/60 at ES (best on the team and only one under 2 besides Sandin, who is at 1.99) with an xGA/60 of 2.27 (only slightly worse than Sandin and Liljegren, who are the best out of the regulars on the Leafs). That GA/60 at ES is 13th best in the league since October 28th (the day after he was benched) out of defensemen who have played at least 400 minutes in that time (166 in total), and the xGA/60 is 29th. Also a major reason why our PK is 4th in the league.

This despite playing the toughest defensive minutes on the team with a Muzzin who has been far from his usual self. The only thing that has suffered this year is his personal production, but the Leafs in general are still producing a ton when he is on the ice.

I think the point is that for some no matter what the Leafs do it's never enough.

Leafs blow a lead, win anyways it's lucky.

Come from behind... lucky.

It does seem fo a small few that unless the Leafs win 6-0 while giving up 4 shots a period, somehow they played a poor game and need to learn what a full 6p means

It's also almost like they are criticizing the game like they did not even watch it.

There were comments like the Leafs were getting dominated much of this game, when in fact, other than the first 10 minutes when we gave up 3 goals, we were in control much of the time. Even Jersey's 4th goal was a fairly lucky bounce to a perfect spot for Bastian to snipe it past Mrazek. We settled down defensively, we were getting a ton of offensive opportunities, and Mrazek did the job that Campbell was supposed to do.

I mean if you are going to criticize, at least criticize things that actually happened.

It's nice that the offense was able to carry the goaltending to another win but at some point we are going to need the goaltending to pull their heads from their asses and make a scattered save so that 5 goals isn't required to win

Yep, wont be playing NJ or Detroit in the playoffs Would be great to see this team play a full 60 mins. I love seeing these 7 and 6 goal games from us, but i'd appreciate if these goals came earlier in the games too like what Florida is doing.

Exactly, how about a 6-2 win, how about that? that way you don't need to pull wins out of your ass

Insanity that the Leafs are on pace to obliterate their highest point total and still need to win their games in hand and keep the pace up to win the division.

How can 118 points not be enough?

This. I see a few comments critical of people criticizing and I'm baffled. We've been playing like crap for a while now and the competition is so weak that we're still winning but come on now, play like this in the playoffs and we'll be out in 4 games, 5 max. So it's fine to be happy about winning but it's also fine to understand that way we've been playing lately will be nowhere near good enough when the real games start.

It's hard for me to watch a team that doesn't seem to know how to play defence any more and not be at least a little bit concerned. Keefe's right, this team is soft and they better harden up between now and the playoffs, or it's going to be another season with a lot of regular season wins followed by another 1st round playoff loss. This is a very good regular season team but they've yet to show that they're capable of playing the type of hockey required to win in the playoffs.

Divisional playoff format is the stupidest format in all pro-sports, idc what anyone says. TB/FLA/TOR are all top 4 teams in the LEAGUE right now. Not just conference, but the entire league, 32 teams. And 2 of them have to meet in the 1st round, and the 3rd one will meet in the 2nd round. Two top 4 teams in the league have to be eliminated before the conference finals. Being in the last WC spot is more favorable than being 2nd in the Atlantic.
