Agreed. My preference is:

Tonight: Kallgren
Saturday: Mrazek
Sunday: Kallgren unless Campbell is ready

The guys on Kipper and Bourne made sense on their show yesterday (probably not a common happening lol)... why would you want to even open up the chance for Petr to give up a softie in the game tonight and get the crowd on him. He's a big boy and his 'confidence' should not be impacted by not starting until Saturday night. Kallgren on the other hand, won 2 lost 1... and then what? We yank him? I'd rather put him back in to see how he reacts after a loss.

That seems reasonable. I mean you could argue to start Mrazek and not worry about the crowd getting on him because he's a big boy with a lot of experience and maybe we should worry about putting too much pressure on Kallgren instead. After all, starting Kallgren again might give him the feeling like it's all on him and that's a pretty big load to carry. On the other hand, the kid seems pretty unperturbed so what the hell, I'd probably start Kallgren.

Yes, yes, exactly. My point about the crowd was not that it would hurt Mrazek, but rather just create a negative vibe around the team... agreed, Mrazek seems pretty straight and narrow when it comes to his mental state.

Regardless, we need to see more of the Stars/Carolina defenisive efforts and not whatever that junk first period was vs Nashville. But, you still need a save to get settled into the game.

I hadn't even thought about it that way but that seems like an excellent point. You've convinced me, I'd start Kallgren for sure now. :thumbu:

So fking stupid - how many chances does he deserve. Just keep running Kallgren and see what you have
If this goes poorly, Kallgren is going to be the one facing Florida and Boston next week unless Jack is ready. I fear even if Jack is not totally ready both he and the team are going to feel pressured to bring him back for those 2 games.

Excited about this... Tonight's probably the night for it...

Mrazek is gonna start to hear da BOOOS from crowd tonight .. bad POLITICAL decision to start him .. if he lets in another softie da BOOs will get nasty bad .. this could be his last game in pro hockey if it goes badly again .. weak and poor decision even against a weak team

On the flipside, we need to rehabilitate one of Mrazek or Campbell, if we hope to have a chance here.

Devils are on a back to back. If you can't get Mrazek a game here to get his confidence back to where it should be, he shouldn't play a game at all.

I think it's the right call.

That and historically, the Devils are one of the team we dominate. Going back the past few years we always seem to put up 5+ goals against them, so there is a good chance the team can support Mrazek with some goals. It's a good game that if he plays well can restore confidence.

I don't think either will be da answer .. Soup will get game 1 start if healthy but it could be his last start .. 1 of kids will play in playoffs .. just my opinion but neither of those 2 have what it takes

Yup. Kallgren potentially a nice story, but the ideal situation is that Mrazek plays just to his average form, which over his career equals average to above average starting goaltender. Just that much would be fine, and a far better scenario then having to run a rookie as backup in the playoffs. Campbell and Mzarek both playing well is the absolute ideal scenario, and he gets one last chance here at it.

You give him this start as a show of faith, after having been forced to expose him on waivers, and say "lets go team, we need this guy going too, giddeeup.". Lets hope it works.

Kallgren been playing decent, and I probably feel better with him starting too, but I understand the logic here. He gets exactly two games to win or lose his spot I think.

Kallgren deserves a chance to redeem his performance against Nashville, and Mrazek deserves to sit out. I don't like that decision at all

The goalie that's played better (Kallgren) doesn't get the start, but the Mrazek does. Putting a sieve in net for Gio and Blackwell's first game. Why? Why???? I can see why some players don't want to come to the Leafs. The favoritism by management....

KEEFE THINKS THAT GIO SHOULD BE PAIRED WITH LILY EVEN THOUGH BRODIE AND GIO WERE A+ BEFORE LOL.
It's temporary - when Muzzin returns, it'll be mixed upp. He's already said this. It does make sense given our lack of LD atm with Sandin and Muzzin out

Honestly, I am not a fan of Mrazek and I really think his style of play is far too busy to suit our team. But I think the decision to start him here is probably the right call TBH. Petr is a better goalie than he has shown us thus far, and what better opportunity to start changing that narrative than having a strong outing against a non playoff team on the 2nd half of a B2B w/ travel.

I mean this is about as ideal of a spot for Petr to jump back in, so if we had any intention of giving him the cage at any point going forward, what better time than now? Obviously a dream matchup has never stopped Petr from having a stinker in the past. I just think there are a couple storylines that will give our boys a bit extra jump tonight. Which include:

-Gio's first game
-Blackwell's first game
-Simmer getting back into the lineup after sitting the last handful of games
-4 days between last game

We are a better team if Petr is playing the way he is capable of. I hope he can take advantage of this opportunity. We need him to step up here, and we need the boys to play a solid defensive game for him.
