I'm going to go ahead and skip to the 3rd period because there was not a whole lot going on in the 1st two aside from our Goaltenders doing great cardboard-cutout imitations leading to a 6-0 Pens lead going into the 3rd. :whatever:

So the 3rd began like normal until a penalty was called on the Pens so the Devils went on a PP that has not done much to that point. But then Jary inexplicably interfered with Nico.

You don't see that very often being called and even Dano wasn't too sure about it BUT we will take whatever we can get at the point.

Of course 5-on-3's historically have not exactly been all that productive for the Devils....EXCEPT FOR NOW :

No Shutout! F YOU, PENS!

With how the Devils were struggling, I thought that would be the high-mark (well aside from Bastian crunching someone through the boards) at that point.

And when Pitt went on the PP, I thought that this was it.

Rango had other ideas :

6-2 Pens now.

So I'm jokingly wondering that the Devils have the Pens right where they want them (considering they've made it a habit of coming back in the 3rd periods) and then all of a sudden :

6-3 Pens.

So I'm like "uhh....whoa" but just as I thought the Devils could complete the comeback at that point, Sid the Squid with his buck-toothed horse-face scored to make it 7-3 Pens.

And at that point, I thought "Okay. the fun is over".

(continued in Part 2, next post below)

Apparently Jack Hughes didn't get the memo :

7-4 Pens.

Someone in the gamethread suggested this would be the final score and it looked to be that way until soon after Jack's goal, somebody shoved a FOOTE up the Pens ass :

7-5 Pens....ladies and gentlemen, WE HAVE OURSELVES A HOCKEY GAME AGAIN!!

So now I'm really vested in this game, though it took until the 3rd period for it to happen.

And someone in the GDT said it best : "I get coasting with a 6-0 lead but allowing 5 goals to a team like ours is a bad look" and he's right.

So I thought the Devils have gone as far as they could but 7 goals is just too much of a mountain to climb(though they will try) and then with the Goaltender pulled, THIS HAPPENED :

7-6???? WHAT IS THIS SORCERY???

And Johnsson FINALLY gets one to go in...even if it's by a fluky deflection. (I thought Rango scored at first)

The drought is over.

And at that point, I was like " The Devils have a chance to at least get a Point if they can get one more???? Damn. "

Unfortunately, with just under 40 seconds remaining, the Devils just could not get into the O-Zone to set up until the very end with Sevs one-timer being blocked, thus preserving the Pens victory.

But make no mistake, Devils fans, this was one kind of Loss that we all can live with.

Also, what we've learned is :

1.) Rango is a goal-scorer, through-and-through
2.) Foote looks to have the makings of a goal-scorer
3.) Nico is still here to hockey
4.) Merkley can really pass the puck well for a scrub
5.) Andreas Johnsson finally contributed something positive on the scoresheet

What we've also learned :

The Pens are overrated.

I don't care how good a team you are...If you allow an opposing team with basically prospects and AHL callups drop 6 goals on you in ONE PERIOD, that is embarassing and this proves to me that Jary is just as overrated as a Goaltender. My Prediction is the Pens won't go far this postseason.

Anyway, Poll is up.

If the Devils had lost without coming back, I would've called the Poll the "3 losers of the game".

After that comeback, though? "*Your* 3 stars of the game"

I don’t know what that was but shame it got wasted in another futile rally. Eventually the goaltending needs to give them a chance or they will get discouraged not being able to roll the boulder up a hill.

They just scored 6 goals in a period after going down 6-0. They clearly aren't getting discouraged

So how great was Butcher. If I’m Seattle I’m looking at him or Johnsson.

I think it would be between Butcher and Merk. Merk has that Palms “needs more minutes” vibes that a new team might be looking for.

If they try to take Bastian, Fitz will just be like,”but, but, Ron, have you not heard of the super friends? They’re like the Sedins only less, you know, Sedin-y”.

I know we're gonna lose a lot with our current team, and I get it, but getting blown out sucks, I want to at least score some goals, I feel so much better after watching the third period tonight, even though we did lose

Same here. Was so ready to turn it off a few times but I kept thinking,”these are the Pens and this Devils team are the cardiac kids, so...”

I didn't mind the end result of this. They showed shit tonight you can't teach. They can learn better defensive structure, pick up a defensive minded plug, they can get better goaltending, but you can't coach someone how to put the puck in the net. If they keep showing they got that part down, I don't care if we win a single game the rest of the season.

what I love about that foote goal, is that it was actually not even a good pass but he still managed to not only get a good shot off but elevate it perfectly. Everyone else either completely flubs that or just gets it right to the goalie's pad.

I'm a bit confused on why the goalie was so...late though? Maybe he was too shocked Foote was able to get a shot off like that

Jarry was really bad in that period.
