I'd be fine with Killorn if he came with Cernak. No to Ristolainen. Yes to Boychuk with a 1st + one of NYI's best prospects.

I'm good with any of the cap dumps that are 3 years or less in terms of length as long as we extract a foundational piece for doing so.

Killorn is still very useful. If he came with Cernak we would be filling 2 spots on our roster and I would love it. All in all, I doubt Killorn has to be attached to one of Tampa’s RFAs to get his numbers off the books.

Yeah, me too. I like Killorn for our team specifically, even if he's on the downswing. I just think we should play hardball while it's possible. But you're right. A lot of teams would take him. He's better than Nate Thompson ever was and there was strong demand for Thompson a few years back.

I wouldn't completely rule out risto in the right deal. It has to involve them taking a contact back though.

I wouldn't be opposed to something like wood + Carrick for risto. I may want them to retain like 1m?

I may be mistaken but all 3 of those D are LD for Tampa and I believe the last few rounds of the playoffs Sergachev was already playing on their 2nd pair.

They moved McDonagh over to the right. In the regular season McDonagh only averaged 20 more seconds than Sergachev. In the playoffs it was 2 minutes more a game for McDonagh

Risto is absolute trash. That would be incredibly stupid. If Dellow and Cane have any sort of pull there is not a chance in hell that move happens

No chance in hell would I take on Risto without a big sweetener from Buffalo

To their credit, it's hard to tell how much an impact Dellow and Cane do have. The year we kept trading back and acquiring multiple picks seemed like their kind of thinking and we haven't really lost a trade since they've been brought on. Then again we used some of those picks on what some would call low ceiling, high floor players.

I wonder if they had a hand in targeting specific players like Foote, Kuokkanen, Mukhamadullin, etc.

Feels like foote was all fitzy based on the athletic article about the Coleman trade

I'd have no interest in Boychuk unless the asset attached was REALLY good.

Definitely would love to get Killorn. I've said it before, but Killorn + Cernak together (obviously would prefer Serg but still not sure they deal him) would be a home run. That would basically fill out the rest of our needs.

Would you do that for gourde or Johnson? Gourde or Johnson + cernak for future considerations?

Just curious

At 5v5 he is that bad. He is a PP specialist.

That's what I mean though. Give him the torey Krug treatment. Buffalo shares some of the blame. They play the dude 22-25 minutes a night with most of his starts coming in the dzone. It may be one of the most horrific uses of a player I've seen.

Give the guy 17 minutes a night, 60-65% ozone starts, I think it's a little different. He'll never be worth the money he's making, but that's why I say they gave to retain and I'm giving them money back

I *DO* think something could work centered around Butcher and Sergachev, not sure this is it though.
It would take a LOT for me to take on Johnson for 4 more years at 5M/year.

There's no way Tampa accepts that. Butcher would clear waivers with his combination of performance and salary, not to mention that his cap hit makes it no-go for Tampa.

Most of his zone starts are not in the D-zone. That is a common misconception with hockey fans when they look at zone starts. I'll just use Risto's as an example. On hockey reference last season it was 47.6 O vs 52.4 D. Those numbers miss a TON of context. In reality it was 55% on the fly, 11% O-zone, 14% D-zone, and 20% neutral zone. When you look at it with full context you realize it isn't all that big of a deal.

Even at half retained he isn't someone I'd want without a sweetener and Buffalo isn't going to do that. He is not good and he is not a player that fits with what we need.

Wow that’s bad. Presumably NJ can see that and realize he isn’t a good fit. Maybe they offered to take him from BUF if they threw in a good sweetener.

There's a useable dman in risto, but you have to use him like shattenkirk and that's what he is. Maybe not an ideal fit for us, given our other dmen, and he's never going to be worth the contract he's getting paid, but I think you can deploy him in a way he's not a negative

That’s interesting. I wonder what percentage of players would clear waivers. On NJ I’d expect Zajac Butcher Subban Carrick probably Murray. League wide I’d be curious.

I'd welcome Boychuk if there were solid sweeteners attached to him and I think Lou could make that "win-now" move.

Ristolainen doesn't make sense as we already have guys here who fill the role of defenseman bad in defensive zone.

Killorn, I feel he's a player that should go to contender, not to rebuilding team.

yeah I'm going to disagree with that. That is kind of a silly statement.

I don't even like Butcher that much but this meme that he isn't even an NHLer is nonsense
