Detroit: Jonathin Ericson (+)
Anaheim:Kevin Bieksa (+)

(Hypothetically Bieksa waives to come to Detroit)

The Redwings escape the Ericson contract 2 years earlier, while ducks despite taking on 2 more years can keep Fowler,Lindholm,Vatanen in expansion draft. Both have relatively same contract in $ Ericson 250K more per yr

Redwings protect: Anaheim:
Green Lindholm
DDK Fowler
Bieksa Vatanen

Just an idea maybe? Any team adds?

Easy pass from the Ducks. We're not going to take 4 years of a terrible contract just to protect a player we're probably going to be traded soon anyways (Fowler).

We're most likely just going to buyout Bieksa before the expansion draft anyways.

Yeah, pass from Ducks POV.

The lack of an NTC on Ericsson isn't worth the 2 extra years of paying him.

If Detroit is that desperate for a defensemen they would have already resigned Kyle Quincey.

Or Detroit could go out and just sign a UFA defensemen: Kris Russell, Dennis Seidenberg, Barrett Jackman, Dan Boyle, Marek Zidlicky, Christian Ehrhoff, or Nicklas Grossmann just to name a few.

That would of course means that Detroit would have to make another move to clear up some cap space.

Franzen is on LTIR and someone like Vitale may be sent to the AHL to clear space without making any moves as of right now for Detroit to fit under the cap, unless they can find a trading partner to trade Jimmy Howard.

I had a similar master plan with Fayne back when Bieksa's NTC still hadn't kicked in, swapping head to head (with a possible plus) relieving both teams of their respective troubles. And taking in new, different ones, of course.

But that didn't happen then, and in fact there was no indication at all that BM was looking to offload Bieksa. Like it or not, IMO we're stuck for good with him, and Bob won't change his opinion that Kev is what we need.

The new master plan must be that Bieksa will willingly waive to be exposed in the expansion draft. LV are not going to pick him no matter what, so status quo remains and everyone will get what they want. Well, sort of.

That's not true. BM has tried to change the terms of Bieksa's contract to remove the NTC.

Bieksa should be told to waive for expansion draft so he doesn't have to be protected or we do a buyout. Not trading him for Ericsson and his 4 years at $4,250,000 getting sick of having bad defenseman contracts like that.

Expected another Fowler for Tatar thread. Got a sensible chuckle instead.
