to Edmonton Oilers
Ville Husso (50% retained) (1y @ $2.3750m)
CAP RESULT = EDM saves $0.1250m
to Detroit Red Wings
Stuart Skinner (2y @ $2.6000m)
( DET retains $2.3750m for 1 year )
2024 Nashville 6th Round Pick
CAP RESULT = DET adds $0.2150m
Edmonton feels they HAVE to move on from Skinner. Husso is a 1 year experiment that doesn't add any cap, and in a worst case scenario, Husso 50% retained is a very moveable contract, if EDM wants to do "Husso plus for better goalie" betweeen now and the trade deadline. Husso Rodrigue and Campbell come into training camp fighting for 2 spots. Worst guy of the 3 goes on waivers and down to the AHL.
Detroit feels that they should move on from Husso. The second year of Skinner is only $2.6m with Husso retention finished. DET can graduate from Skinner Lyon to Skinner Cossa and then eventually Cossa. They add a draft pick too. Skinner is a relatively easy-ish contract to move if they decide later on that this trade was a mistake.
Both teams move on from the guys they want to move on with, and try somebody new instead on a short-term basis.
