Last year Dubas had an opportunity to get Gallant. He was on the market
Look what he has done with Rangers. Rangers had talent but they lacked identity and structure
He changed all that

This year the crop is even bigger with Trotz and Cassady

I know sports cliches like sticking to the game plan. Well if the game plan is flawed, you are actually doing more harm then good.

Do it Dubas, fire your boy. Get a coach that actually won or been to the dance. If you could land a grade A free agent in the market and you had cap money, you would go for it. You would make it happen. This is no different
Dubas will never fire Keefe unless overruled by Shanny , probably not worth discussing since i don't how they survive if the team fails again next season.

I doubt Tavares' is getting a raise after this next contract. I would expect Tavares will take a team friendly deal. I think what will happen is the NHL is going to be forced to raise the cap higher than they want to. Why? because at some point the contracts around the league will be so out of control there will be a huge wage gap. Toronto isn't the only team who is going through this and they aren't even the first team who is going to suffer because of the stupid design of the cap. I'm really interested to see how Calgary handles their contracts. They are screwed, they are going to be pay two wingers probably over 10 million. With no legit #1 center.

Tavares is up after the other 3 so he doesn't really matter in the math

Tkachuck is an RFA and hasn't produced in the playoffs I can see the flames taking the picks and if no one bothers to offer sheet him they'll bridge him for cheaper

Rangers have been shit 5v5 against Tampa, so they don't have that good structure you claim they have. Special teams and Vasilevski being worst goalie in the first two games made the difference. Not the structure by Gallant. We controlled 5v5 against Tampa, but Rangers are in trouble even strenght.

The rangers are +5 goal differental 5 on 5 vs Tampa this series and +1 even if you exclude game 1. They are even on the power play. Vasi was pretty bad in our series as well we just couldn't take advantage even with 40 million in 4 players. I'd like to have whatever crack you are smoking

Cassidy's available too? I missed that.

Such a travesty that other teams will snap these guys up while we put up with another year of F-bomb Shelly and the Handshake Crew.

2 series wins and leading in the 3rd.....but but but their x/60 is poor. o_O

I swear some people would rather lose being able to show we are the better team on paper than actually just win a damn series.

A collection of skilled players doesn’t automatically equal championship. It needs the right mix and balance. 2 things people should be questioning after a 6th failure.

If the Leafs are not interested in Trotz neither will thebe in Cassidy. For some reason they really love Keef. I don't know why because he hasn't accomplished anything yet.

He's boys with the GM. Been that way since they both were in the Soo and shockingly did nothing in the playoffs

I wouldn't consider losing in the conference finals to a stacked Otters team 2 years in a row that featured McDavid, Strome, Debrincat, C.Brown etc. doing nothing in the playoffs.

Keefe is going to be a legend. A LEGEND.

You can hand this management team a 60 goal Rocket Richard winner and a player named to the Hart and deemed the league MVP and even with home ice advantage and home crowd and can't assemble a winning team around him nor coach it to even a single playoff round win.

If you hand other teams Hart finalists Connor McDavid or Igor Shesterkin and they return final 4 playoff round appearances provided with that level of star player.

I wouldn't call that passing all tests, that looks more like failure from the outside looking in.

You sold your boss on a plan.
You bet your job on the plan.
Your boss started you off with 3 players on ELC, great value deals in Kadri/Rielly and a 105 point team.

In 4 years, the best you did was 10 points in the regular season.

Yeah never understood the title of this thread. What test has he passed? We know the ones he’s failed.

And now - a declining JT, no #1 goalie and a #2 they want to get rid of. 3rd and 4th lines will likely be a mix of cheap guys once again, and a coach who isn't accountable for anything because the GM is his buddy and believes he will be legendary

Florida wanted to go with a more experienced coach after winning the Presidents' Trophy. We stick with handshake line Keefe
