We are not trading the god damn core...lol. what are you? wanting to go in full tank mode and start over? lol
Well, no. But, at least we would win just as many playoff rounds as we do now iin that case

Nazem Kadri was Leafs 2nd line centre at the time of JT signing, and he just put up in 71 games 28 goals 59 assists 87 points [= 1.22 PPG] and he did it for mere $4.5 mil.

He was signed to a Cap friendly 6 year deal at $4.5 mil by the previous GM and produced multiple 32 goals seasons in TO before his Cap was too big to fit Tavares in to his position at #2C.

This season Tavares put up in 79 games 27 goals 49 assists 76 points for $11 mil Cap. Even if JT Is $2 mil overpaid that makes him a $9 mil cap player which still equals 2 X what Kadri makes.

John Tavares was drafted #1OA in 2009 draft and Kadri was draft 6 spots later at #7OA.

Sometimes the grass is not always greener.

With Kadri at $4.5 mil and Nylander at $7 mil it would have allowed for another $6.5 mil winger to ride shotgun with them for the same cap JT & WN consume now.

Nazem Kadri was a saboteur. I refuse to read the rest of this post.

Hmm. It's an emotional time but I shrugged this one off fast.

Last year was heart breaking. So mad I was eyeing Mitch. Just crazy..

We rebuilt on every level including grooming coach and GM. During his tenure he has kept us among the best and most exciting teams.

In his favor. Solid draft record. Some decent trades. Several wicked signings. Created an environment that makes guy like Spezza and Gio hang out. Navigates the cap brilliantly.

Cons. A few bad signings. Mrazek and Ritchie being the best recent examples. A failure to acquire quality goalie depth at every level. Not getting out of the first round. Might have overpaid Marner? I don't know. Some guy stress on the big 4.

So most concede Washington was completely
a surprise season. We had more than a few rookies have great season and no important failures. Underdog

Next is expected. Boston. I don't need to remind anyone. Underdog

Boston....close odds on this one.

Columbus. Embarassing season. Play in. Lose to underdog.

Montreal.JT went down game one but it didn't affect us until game 4? Embarassing. Collapse to our rival in one of its weakest incarnations.

Tampa. Can't call us favorites but 115 point team. Took cup Champs to the wire. Great series against the best.

2 embarrisings on your report card , a couple bonus stars but after watching the Panthers get dismantled I'm fine with one more chance. I feel like he built the 2nd or 3rd best team in the world which is pretty good. How many Gms are doing better? I understand why some would be eager for change but I really like the main group he put together.

It's also an easy summer. Get best fa goalie or trade for Gibson ( just naming main rumour). Find a left winger. Trade Holl. Dump Mrazek. Sign our RFAs.

The other thing about dumping him is we could do worse. I mean a lot worse. We've had so many bad ones.

Who said anything about trading the core Or going in full tank mode……that’s on you.
what we need to do is trade 1 of them to try and balance the talent around.
if you think they can win a cup with 50% of the cap tied up on 4 similar forwards then there is no hope for you. This core has proven they cannot rise above and win a round. It’s time to make at least 1 meaningful change

It's not *bad luck*. Watch the games. Our star players -- Marner and Nylander especially -- literally coast into the corners to avoid getting hit. They are not willing to sacrifice. We don't have the requisite compete, and ship out anyone who does (Kadri, Hyman). It's a bizarre and obviously wrongheaded team building strategy, but Dubas is beyond arrogant.

Results are not always instant. We will win when Marner and Matthews take over games in the playoffs. And I think they are close.

Once he gave in to Nylander he was done.
So when Nylander caved and accepted what Dubas was offering, he should have pulled the offer? Man you haters are really grasping at straws now, aren't you. Not even grasping straws, more like hallucinating.:laugh:

Lou pissed Marner off back when he was owed bonus money and it not given to him. So Marner made us pay when he became RFA.

Blame Lou for being a dick

Or Dubas could have tried to not be a complete idiot and bend over to him.

He had 0 leverage anyone who know what they were doing doesn't give him that contract

Same with Auston and the 5 years+ NMC

I thought Marner was the first player Lou agreed to pay bonuses too. I can't remember so I could be wrong but I vaguely remember it being in the news since he never did.

I think what ruined it was them seeing what Tavares got and both players basically saying I'm better I should get more or around the same as him.

I pulled this off hockey writers

"The deal carries an AAV of 925,000 with signing bonuses. Elliotte Friedman notes that the contract comes with “Level A” bonuses and that the use of those bonuses runs contrary to new GM Lou Lamoriello’s previous self-imposed rules, but that since negotiations began prior to Lamoriello’s arrival that an exception was made."

Where did you read that he said Dubas should have pulled the offer?? He said that he knew that this was the beginning of Dubas getting bent over by the others in contract negotiations.

And 1 side is grasping at straws between Dubas fanboys and the doubters. But it's not the doubters my friend. You would think that 4 straight 1st round playoff exits under his tenure would prove that. 😅🤣🤣😅😅😂😅😅

What are you even talking about? Nylander was the one who caved at the last minute and accepted what Dubas was offering.

The hallucinations seem to be contagious, perhaps all those emoji's are making your head spin.

So you’re saying that Dubas didn’t get bent over by Matthews and Marner?

He was put in charge at a tough time where he had to sign his star rfa's. The person he replaced which we were told was a major mistake had the chance to sign Nylander the summer before but decided the priority was near retirement Marleau at 6.5. He also had to improve the D core which again neither Burke, now looking for a new job.... again in Nonis, and Lou never could. He was able to sign his rfa's at higher amounts than expected which should be on Lou because he's shown here and NY he lets agents run over him. He improved the D core and pretty much revamped the entire D core except for Rielly. Sandin he drafted along with Dubas's development system made Holl into an NHL player. Liljegren was drafted by Lou but his development was in Dubas's system so thats a Dubas piece really.
Covid ruined some plans but he has done a great job adding pieces under a flat cap.

He just needs playoff success but the lack there of isn't on him. He has improved the team in difficult circimstances from Covid to cleaning up mistakes from other GM's. He inherited a team with young stars who needed new deals and a flawed up and coming team and done great things with it.

This is why the leafs will NEVER win anything. The fans, media and team management have accepted mediocrity.

Dubas was gifted stars and has done little to nothing building a winner around them. In part because he tied his own hands under the salary cap.

How awesome.

The more you look around the league, the more you can see our team is no different from the rest in the 2nd/3rd round.

Looks like coaching isn't as good as other teams.

For every Jason Spezza he got us Wayne Simmonds
For every Spezza he got us Galeynchuk.... Both who played key minutes every year
For every decent trade he got us Rittich for 3rd
Got rids of Mec for Sparks and couldn't find a back up goalie for 2 years

Lets all not talk about Nik Foligno and great 10 games he played for us.... That was a lot of fun,. Paying 1st for that POS

But I guess let's talk about how great he is though. Lets keep praising our supreme leader

It's the compulsive gambler analogy. They only remember the wins...never the losses or they downplay them to the point they almost don't exist. If people critical of Dubas can admit he did some good things...why can't his supporters admit he did some bad as well?

More good than bad to me. I'm willing to give him another year because I like this group.

If you have had enough and want to turn the page I under entirely. I'm on faith.

If he stays I'm sorry it will bother you. Just don’t let it bother you that it doesn't bother me. 😄

I won't cry if he's fired and I'm getting impatient to. I don't see many GMS I'd rather have or any with fewer warts though.
