Derek Sanderson is the guest on the next The Tim McCarver Show. It's a syndicated show so check your local TV listings for times and channels. Here's the description from the zap2it listings:

Former hockey great Derek Sanderson discusses his fall from greatness and his rise back up to sportscaster and successful investor.

I don't think McCarver knows squat about hockey so hopefully somebody on his staff wrote the questions for him.

Man, I wish I caught that. The Turk was something else back in the day.

Check this out, real cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHPWfdc5C4Q

First saw the Turk in a junior game against Orr in the garden in 1966...He was the best stick checker I have ever seen.. Also thought he was a horses rear end for his off ice behavior..

When I watch the 'crap' that the Habs pull on the ice, I think 'what would have the late 60's-70's Bruins have done to them?' I have visions of Wayne Cashman ragdolling Markov or Emelin -

and I smile...

More likely accidentally high-sticking one of them in the head.

Habs crap was no comparison to some of the stuff Sanderson did.

The first time I saw Turk was at "The Mall" (The Hartford Civic Center) before a game against the Whalers in 1989. He was walking around eating peanuts (they used to have a cart that sold hot peanuts, that were the best) with Fred.

My little kid mind thought it was just the most awesome thing to pass them.

That era, and Fred and Derek, showed me what being a Bruin was all about. I latched right on.

Anyone know when the movie is coming out?

I know they got the cast set up. I think Kurt Russell's son is playing Bobby Orr. Pretty cool, Wyatt Russell I believe is a semi pro hockey player and he looks EXACTLY like Orr back in the day.

True story: My mother went to high school with him, and when he was really down and basically living on the streets, she wanted to bring him to our house to live with us. My father, who was working for the Islanders at the time, wanted to do it too but decided he couldn't bring him into a house with two kids and a third on the way.

I am really glad he turned it around.

Yes. It's a great read and well written (Derek had help). One of the main bits I came away with was how great his Dad was. Just a great father. Given what happened later in life, you might think perhaps he didn't receive proper parenting, but as the book makes clear, that wasn't the case.

I believe there is a definite genetic component to addiction, from what I've witnessed. You can be the greatest person in the world, but drugs/alcohol/gambling can turn you into a monster, no matter how well you've been raised. That Sanderson managed to come through it could be seen as a testament to his friends and family as well as himself.

True. Btw, were you there for the first game after the bombing, against Buff?

I can't believe they're making a movie. That's frick'n awesome. :)

I know he's already Ross "the boss" Rhea...but I gotta agree with SI by saying Liev Schreiber would make a great Turk. He's got the whole tough, cool, and tormented thing down...

*nevermind...I got old news...the cast is already set...I hated that guy on Prometheus...he was ******-ie...oh well...the Orr guy is spot on...*

By the way - I just noticed that next week's guest ( airing here on June 8th ) is former Red Sox 3rd baseman and chicken lover Wade Boggs.
